Muslim Pilgrimage near Mecca Results in Stampede – At Least 700 Killed, 800 Injured

In another incredible event, 700 people died in a stampede in a Muslim pilgrim city near Mecca in Saudi Arabia on Thursday. Over 800 were injured.

The New York Times reports:

At least 717 people were killed and 863 injured in a stampede near Mecca, Saudi Arabia, on Thursday morning.

The deaths — at an intersection in Mina, about six miles east of the city — occurred around 9 a.m. on the first day of Eid al-Adha, one of the holiest days in the Muslim calendar, as millions of Muslims were making their pilgrimage, or hajj, to Mecca.

It appeared to be the deadliest accident during the hajj since 1990, when 1,426 pilgrims perished in a stampede in a tunnel linking Mecca and Mina. And it occurred less than two weeks after a large construction crane toppled and crashed into the Grand Mosque in Mecca, killing at least 111 people and injuring 394 others.

The Saudi health minister, Khalid al-Falih claims that the stamped may have resulted from “movement of some pilgrims who didn’t follow the guidelines and instructions issued by the responsible authorities.”

Perhaps, this is why Saudi Arabia doesn’t want any of those unruly Muslim “refugees” that Europe and the US are bringing in, but are more than happy to provide mosques for them to worship in Germany at.

According to Aljazeera, “Mina is where pilgrims carry out a symbolic stoning of the devil by throwing pebbles against three stone walls. It also houses more than 160,000 tents where pilgrims spend the night during the pilgrimage.”

Ironic, isn’t it? They symbolically throw stones at the devil, but do not realize it is the devil who is their “Allah.” It was the devil and his minions who provided the doctrines of Islam to Muhammad, not the God of the Bible.

Tweet shows the street on which the stampeded occurred and the aftermath.

Just two years ago, 244 people were crushed at Mina with hundreds injured during the pilgrimage. In 2001, 35 were killed there, as well. However, 1990 saw the greatest tragedy. A stampeded occurred in an overcrowded pedestrian tunnel that killed 1,426.

Just a couple of weeks ago, ironically on September 11, a crane collapsed at the Mosque in Mecca killing at least 111 people.

While I believe Saudi Arabia was behind the 9/11 attacks and that some in our government even knew it was going to happen, but let it in order to impose the Patriot Act and curb civil liberties, I do not rejoice in people’s death, but I do know that God will fight on our behalf if we would but repent and seek Him. Furthermore, if we fail to repent, then we should heed the words of the Lord Jesus who said, “Except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish (Luke 13:3, 5).
