Country Musician at Las Vegas Shooting Emotionally Sells Out Pro-Second Amendment Support

Well, you knew it was coming, and I’m not surprised at all.  Lead guitarist of the Josh Abbott Band, the band that was playing at the time the gunshots began to ring out in Las Vegas on Sunday night, has come out and renounced his Second Amendment support and called for more gun laws…now.

In an article posted by The Washington Post, where the banner reads, “Democracy Dies in Darkness” and I respond with we aren’t a democracy but apparently so does the Second Amendment, Caleb Keeter, the group’s lead guitarist said that he no longer supports the Second Amendment.

Keeler posted on Twitter following the shooting.

“I’ve been a proponent of the 2nd amendment my entire life. Until the events of last night. I cannot express how wrong I was. We actually have members of our crew with [Concealed Handgun Licenses], and legal firearms on the bus,” Keeter wrote. “They were useless.” He continued:

We couldn’t touch them for fear police might think we were part of the massacre and shoot us. A small group (or one man) laid waste to a city with dedicated, fearless police officers desperately trying to help, because of access to an insane amount of fire power.

Enough is enough.

Writing my parents and the love of my life a goodbye last night and a living will because I felt like I wasn’t going to live through the night was enough for me to realize that this is completely and totally out of hand. These rounds were just powerful enough that my crew guys just standing in close proximity of a victim shot by this f—ing coward received shrapnel wounds.

We need gun control RIGHT. NOW. My biggest regret is that I stubbornly didn’t realize it until my brothers on the road and myself were threatened by it. We are unbelievably fortunate to not be among the number of victims killed or seriously wounded by this maniac.

Later, he would try to man up and wrote, “That being said, I’ll not live in fear of anyone.  We will regroup, we’ll come back, and we’ll rock your f—ing faces off. Bet on it.”

I’m sorry Mr. Keeter.  I simply don’t believe you.  You do live in fear.  That’s why you are calling for more control of guns and the oppression of the rights of gun owners, Sir.  With all due respect, whoever the actual shooter or shooters were in Las Vegas they wouldn’t be following any of your gun laws because they had already scrapped God’s law, You shall not murder.

Meanwhile, no offense, but Mr. Keeter rushed off stage with no thought of those in attendance to care for them.  Just pointing out the obvious here and that is that he was making an emotionally driven statement.  Had a gunman come on stage and began firing, do you honestly think those armed bodyguards he has would not have stopped them?

But I digress because while the Second Amendment can certainly be used to speak for the right of self-defense and defense of others, it was written with the thought of preserving liberty from tyrants, something Mr. Keeter doesn’t even mention.

Like a little girl, he whines, obviously shaken at the prospect that he could have been shot.  That’s not to downplay what he experienced or even what he feels.  It’s simply to point out that rash decisions like Mr. Keeters when you are emotionally unstable are never wise decisions.

I’m not looking to make fun of Mr. Keeter, but he fails to realize that the very thing he is calling for is the one thing that is standing in the way of a full takeover in our country of Communism.  Keeter would be wise to consider our history, to consider our God-given duty as men to protect others and to even read the monumental work of Stephen Halbrook, Gun Control in the Third Reich, to understand exactly what happens if what he is promoting is imposed.

Our forefathers understood this clearly and they had been shot at and threatened numerous times.  It was not until the British came to actually impose what gun control actually seeks as its ultimate goal, full gun confiscation, that they used those weapons against the tyrants.

At least Josh Abbott didn’t go where Keeter did.

“Everyone in our band and crew are safe,” Abbott, the lead singer, wrote. “The band & crew were on the concert grounds and saw people get shot. Some of my crew members were hit with shrapnel, but not injured. We are deeply disturbed by this horrific act of violence and send our thoughts and prayers to the victims and their families. It was a long awful night but we are blessed to be alive and healthy. Hug your loved ones tight.”

Everyone in our band and crew are safe. I (Josh) had just left and was in the Mandalay Bay on the 20th floor with my…

In Twitter posts, Abbott stopped to simply consider the victims.

“I got back to Taylor & our room in Mandalay about 30 minutes ago,” he tweeted.  “The rest of the band & crew are home now. Was a long awful night.”

“I’ll never unhear those gunshots; and our band & crew will never forget how that moment made them feel,” he tweeted.  “Our hearts are with all the victims.”

As those who believe in the unalienable rights discussed in the Declaration of Independence and protected by the Constitution, we must remember one thing in all of this:  In the minds of the people who do what Mr. Keeter do and call for more constraint of liberties rather than justice upon the guilty, there will never be a separation of the gun from the individual, no matter his political persuasion or religious belief system.  It just won’t happen.

Therefore, we must counter each and every one of these emotional arguments with the law and the intent of that law.
