Democrat SC Mayor Now Pushing to Ban Bump Stocks & Trigger Cranks

You really just can’t fix stupid in this country and Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin is just the latest example of this.

On Wednesday Benjamin said that he is planning to propose a city ordinance which would ban the use of bump stocks and trigger cranks.

These two devices simulate automatic firing but maintain the weapon as a semi-automatic.

“I believe in responsible gun ownership, and I believe in common sense,” Benjamin said in a statement. “That’s why I’ve decided to do what our federal and state governments are either unable or unwilling to do.”

“The simple fact is that automatic weapons have been illegal in this country for more than 30 years, and the only purpose these devices serve is to circumvent that law multiplying firing rates tenfold to approximately 400-800 rounds per minute and turning a semi-automatic firearm into a mass murder machine,” Benjamin added.

“This is wrong in every sense,” he said.

Mr. Benjamin either does not understand the Second Amendment or God-given rights, or doesn’t understand the reason that our forefathers understood the need for the people to have access to the best weaponry they could get their hands on to deal with a tyrannical government.

Automatic weapons are illegally banned, under our Constitution.  Anyone that reads the Second Amendment cannot make an argument for writing one single gun law from those words.

Furthermore, while some may say, “Well, he’s just doing what he thinks best,” I say, no, he’s demonstrating he is willing to infringe on the people of Columbia’s rights in this area, so what makes you think he won’t use something else to infringe on your rights in another area?

Mayor Benjamin, who claims to own several guns and is a concealed weapon permit holder, held a press conference on Thursday and said that his attack on bump stocks was not an attempt to demonize gun owners.

The Charleston Post Courier reported

“I’m a gun guy,” said Benjamin, a Democrat, noting he holds a concealed weapons permit and owns several guns. “I have no interest in demonizing gun ownership.”

But it’s been 45 days since the Las Vegas shooting, and it’s time for “good guys with guns” — Republican and Democrat — to push for common sense gun laws, he said.

There are no “common sense” gun laws.  There is either violating your oath of office and infringing on the rights of the people or there is upholding your oath of office and protecting those rights, including ones that ensure the rights of the people to keep and bear arms of any kind are protected.

By the way, of course, he’s a Democrat, too.

According to Benjamin’s ordinance, possession of any gun equipped with bump stocks or trigger cranks would impose a sentence of up to 30 days in jail, a $500 fine or community service.

So, let’s get this straight.  One day you are a law-abiding citizen.  The next day, because of a piece of paper from a Democrat gun grabber, and that is what he is, you are a criminal and the punishment for you if you possess either of these items is that government grows its revenue either through taxation to feed clothe and house you for 30 days, they get $500 bucks, which you can be sure they will impose or you become a slave for the city for however many hours they deem appropriate.

But I ask you, who is the victim in all of this?  It’s the law-abiding citizen who has just been criminalized by edict of the ctiy council, but not under our laws.

Of course, knee-jerk reactions like Benjamin’s are not uncommon after the October 1 Las Vegas shooting, in which alleged gunman Stephen Paddock murdered nearly 60 people and wounded 500.

Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) came out shortly after the Las Vegas shooting and pushed for a ban on bump stocks, then followed up by admitting that there are “no set of laws” that would have prevented the shooting.

If you wonder why people say that liberalism is a mental disorder, this is why.  The amazing disconnect to demonize a piece of plastic and then turn right around and say that no laws would have prevented the very shooting you are using to advance your ban of that piece of plastic is incredibly stupid and illogical.

People like this should never be allowed in office because they are a danger to the people.  They are criminally minded because they will not adhere to the law that was written to bind them to fidelity, not to bind the citizens they are supposed to be serving.

Democrat Rep. Leon Stavrinakis of Charleston introduced legislation at the state level that would ban the possession and sale of the devices statewide.  He claims to have already had a couple of Republicans on board to violate both the US and SC State Constitutions concerning the keeping and bearing of arms.

What every single person mentioned in this article aren’t telling you is that you can ban bump stocks all you want and people can still bump fire without them.  Take a look.

The issue is not public safety nor common sense gun laws.  They want your guns and the above videos simply demonstrate that.
