A former Olympic wrestling champion who turned 50 last week has now appeared in video footage single-handedly fighting off seven police officers.
Vyacheslav Oliynyk of Ukraine captured Olympic gold in the light heavyweight division of Greco-Roman wrestling in 1996 and had limited success, placing fourteenth, in the 2000 Olympic games.

But apparently, he must have retained some of those skills — video shows the now 50-year-old man in an altercation with seven cops in Kiev after he was pulled over on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.
Oliynyk reportedly questioned the officers’ reasons for stopping him, but the situation escalated quickly. In the video, the former wrestling champ confronts a pair of officers in front of a crowd of onlookers.
When Oliynyk gets a bit too close for comfort, one cop raises his baton in a defensive stance while another deploys pepper spray. A minor fracas begins, and eventually all seven officers on the scene are involved trying to take the wrestler to the ground.
Though Oliynyk throws several punches — and winds up with a bloody face in the process — one thing becomes readily apparent for an audience in the United States. Despite requiring virtually every officer on scene, and despite the wrestler’s aggression toward them, not one cop decides to employ deadly force.
