House Freedom Caucus Endorses GOP Healthcare Bill After Added Amendment

The Freedom Caucus stood against the Ryan/Trump healthcare bill because it was a bad bill and House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) pulled the bill ahead of a vote.  However, now they are getting behind the American Health Care Act following an amendment, which they claim will help lower costs, but make no mistake, Obamacare remains in effect.

The Freedom Caucus tweeted out an announcement in support of the AHCA with the MacArthur amendment.

In the press release, the group wrote:

Over the past couple of months, House conservatives have worked tirelessly to improve the American Health Care Act (AHCA) to make it better for the American people. Due to improvements to the AHCA and the addition of Rep. Tom MacArthur’s proposed amendment, the House Freedom Caucus has taken an official position in support of the current proposal.

The MacArthur amendment will grant states the ability to repeal cost driving aspects of Obamacare left in place under the original AHCA. While the revised version still does not fully repeal Obamacare, we are prepared to support it to keep our promise to the American people to lower healthcare costs. We look forward to working with our Senate colleagues to improve the bill. Our work will continue until we fully repeal Obamacare.

Among the things in the amendment are allowing states to request waivers of pre-existing conditions, and opting out of the essential health benefits.  However, it will keep many of the same provisions as laid out in the original AHCA.

They followed up with another tweet saying that they would “work with our Senate colleagues to improve the AHCA.  Our work will continue until we fully repeal Obamacare.

Frankly, a full repeal of Obamacare would be better than advancing the Republican version of it.

According to Breitbart, Freedom Caucus Chairman Mark Meadows (R-NC) said that he hopes to see an Obamacare repeal bill pass the House by the end of May.

I say, don’t hold your breath.  Why will they not put that bill front and center?  That was the promise made to the American people Mr. Meadows.    You guys promised to repeal Obamacare, not “lower healthcare costs.”  Where is Jim Jordan on this after saying, “Let’s repeal Obamacare, not create some different form of Obamacare”?

I’m beginning to wonder what sort of WWE match we are getting ready to see come May.  The votes probably are not going to change that much with regard to the actual bill, but I could be wrong here.

Already, the Republicans and Trump have rolled over to Democrats on funding the border wall to spend all sorts of money unconstitutionally for other things, including socialist welfare programs, funding Obamacare and Planned Parenthood so that they can “avoid a government shutdown.”

Reports are saying that the White House is pushing for an April 28 vote on the bill with the MacArthur amendment.

Frankly, I’d like to see it actually shutdown till those that took an oath to the Constitution only spend money they have been authorized to spend money on.

This entire repeal Obamacare fiasco could be dealt with in one quick strike with either this bill or this bill.  Take your pick.  They are basically one line bill that repeal the entirety of Obamacare.  This really is not a difficult thing to do DC.

Below is the MacArthur Amendment.
