Hurricane Looters Arrested After News Crew Catches Them On Video

I sure hope the police are already out there preparing to make a host of arrests in South Florida, because the vermin who used a tragedy as a cover for their crimes deserve the harshest penalties we can throw at them.

As Hurricane Irma was busy ravaging the Sunshine State on Sunday, criminals were also busy planning their attacks on the innocent victims left helpless by the storm.

Even with police warnings, the dregs of society made their way out into the streets in an effort to get some free stuff from mostly undefended stores.

Early in the day, WPLG 10 in Fort Lauderdale was shooting video when much to their surprise they happened to capture looters in the act of robbing local businesses. The civic-minded reporters did the right thing and notified the local police, showing them the video they’d shot.

Fort Lauderdale police arrested 9 people caught by Local 10 cameras looting Fort Lauderdale business despite the dangerous winds and heavy rain from Hurricane Irma

Local 10 cameras caught a group breaking into the Simon’s Sportswear on Sunrise Blvd. and Powerline Road.
The group of about 8-9 people broke through the front window and were seen walking in and then walking out with stolen items.

The group then began looting a Footlocker and CashAmerica Pawn Store in the same area.

Hours later, the Fort Lauderdale Police Department tweeted that they had caught the criminals.

“Going to prison over a pair of sneakers is a fairly bad life choice,” said Fort Lauderdale police chief Rick Maglione. “Stay home and look after your loved once and be thankful they are all safe.”

Sadly, that wasn’t the end of the looting… but ironically another news station’s cameras were on-hand to record the criminal activity, and there’s no doubt that these criminals will also soon be receiving visits from the local PD.

Cameras from WSVN 7 also caught some ugly behavior as hordes of criminals looted a local Foot Locker and a Metro PCS store.

Thus far, police have caught up with 28 looters/thieves who tried to take advantage of the chaos surrounding Hurricane Irma’s effects on Miami-Dade County. More arrests are likely still to come.
