Rep. Steve King: “Very Disappointed” about Trump’s Inaction on Obama’s Executive Amnesty
Representative Steve King (R-IA) says he is “very disappointed” with a lack of action by the Trump administration against Barack Hussein Obama Soetoro Sobarkah’s executive amnesty.
If you recall, Obama would not enforce immigration laws, saying it wasn’t “smart” and “doesn’t make sense.” He also ignored immigration and said Congress had to pass more laws to solve the problem of illegal immigration. Finally, he thumbed his nose at Congress over immigration laws because he could and they would do nothing, even though they had the power to impeach him.
“Every day this has been a violation of the Constitution,” King said of the executive actions. “Every day [the Trump administration is]complicit it is harder to resolve… is [Trump] going to force us to go back to court again?”
In an interview with the Daily Caller, King said that he and Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly “may not share opinions on the rule of law” when it comes to illegal aliens and amnesty.
The Daily Caller reports:
King told TheDC that he is “very disappointed on the lack of action” from the White House on Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and Deferred Action for Parents of Americans (DAPA). Over 750,000 people have received amnesty from DACA since 2012 and implementation by DAPA was held up by a court decision.
Trump could end DACA and DAPA through an executive order, and said on the campaign trail he would “immediately terminate” them. Republican Pennsylvania Rep. Lou Barletta previously told TheDC that he wasn’t worried about Trump’s inaction so far on the issue, but King said “every day this has been a violation of the Constitution.”
The Iowa congressman said he brought it up with Trump three weeks ago and spoke to him about ending the amnesty programs. However, he has no confirmation of anything in the works. King said that “everyday they are complicit it is harder to resolve,” adding, “is [Trump] going to force us to go back to court again?”
Trump’s rhetoric about amnesty since taking office has been noticeably soft. He said at a February press conference that “DACA is a very, very difficult subject for me.” Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh has defended Trump possibly letting DACA recipients, also known as DREAMers stay, saying that deporting “kids” wouldn’t reflect well on the White House.
At the end of March, Rep. King wrote an op-ed piece. In that piece, he reminded Americans of Trump’s promise concerning this issue.
“President Trump pledged to end DACA and DAPA, or Deferred Action for Parents of Americans, on the first day of his presidency,” King wrote. “More than 60 days in, the Trump administration continues to issue new permits and extend existing permits. It’s late, but not too late, to end the unconstitutional and lawless DACA program and return lawbreakers to their home countries where they were born. They will go back to their homes and their home communities.”
Let’s point out that an estimated 36,000 illegal immigrants have received amnesty since Trump took office in January, according to The Daily Caller.
“Sen. Dick Durbin, Illinois Democrat, has stated on the Senate floor, ‘They are amazing,’” he added. “If the Dreamers are of such value to their adopted country, how much greater value will they be to their countries of legal residence? And when they finish their tours of duty, they will be in the back of the line to come back to America, if they qualify. My bet? Dreamers would outperform Peace Corp workers and Thomasites by a country mile. One day, a future president of Mexico will give a speech in Washington, D.C., thanking the United States for our part in restoring the rule of law — in both countries.”
“We have an obligation to get those resources in place so the president can fulfill his campaign promise,” King said, referring to funding for immigration enforcement and building the border wall.
Well, that promise begins with enforcing the law and reversing and Obama executive order is just that, but it is not reversing law, just an illegal order. So, why is he not doing it?
