Retired Lt. Col: We Must Destroy Raqqa: “Kill Ten Thousand, Save a Million”
Retired Army Lieutenant Colonel Ralph Peters wrote a scathing critique of the Obama administration’s efforts against ISIS for the New York Post earlier this week. Peters argues from history that our unwillingness to do what needs to be done may end up being our downfall in the war on terror.
War is never clean or easy, and the strictures imposed on our military today just protect our enemies. Collateral damage and civilian casualties are part of combat and always will be. The most humane approach is to pile on fast and win decisively — which results in far less suffering than the sort of protracted agony we see in Syria.
The generals who won World War II would start by leveling Raqqa, the ISIS caliphate’s capital. Civilians would die, but those remaining in Raqqa have embraced ISIS, as Germans did Hitler. The jihadis must be crushed. Start with their “Berlin.”

Kill ten thousand, save a million.
Unthinkable? Fine. We lose.
And the jihadis? They’ll always have Paris.
Lt. Col. Peters continued his assault on the Obama doctrine when he appeared on Fox News’O’Reilly Factor with Bill O’Reilly.
“It is just beyond delusional. This guy is so arrogant and, at the same time, so sensitive. He cannot admit he’s ever wrong. And boy, is he wrong and has been wrong about Islamist terror.”
You cannot, cannot make war without collateral damage and civilian casualties,” Peters said. “What he’s done, he’s saved a handful of lives and, as you observed in your Talking Points, condemned millions of people to subjugation, torture, torment, kidnapping, rape, murder, refugee status.”
