Sen. Chuck Schumer: We’re Only Going to Work with Trump if He “Abandons his Republican Colleagues”

Hmmm. This doesn’t seem like the spirit of bipartisanship, camaraderie, or cooperation that most Americans say they want, but perhaps the leaders of the Democrat Party have forgotten that they are weaker today than they have been in over a century.

Newly minted Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) told CNN on Tuesday “the only way we’re going to work with him is if he moves completely in our direction and abandons his Republican colleagues. Ninety, 95 percent of the time, we’ll be holding his feet to the fire and holding him accountable.” So, did CNN’s Dana Bash, who was conducting the interview, accuse Schumer and his party of “obstruction,” the common epithet used against Republicans? NOPE. Instead, Bash soothed and cajoled Schumer, reminding him that he loved making deals and was the consummate dealmaker.

Seriously.

Chuck Schumer: The only way we’re going to work with him is if he moves completely in our direction and abandons his Republican colleagues. Ninety, 95 percent of the time, we’ll be holding his feet to the fire and holding him accountable. But we’re Democrats. We’re not going to just oppose things to oppose them.

Dana Bash: I’ve known you for a long time. You love a deal, not unlike the president-elect. I find that hard to believe, that you don’t want to make deals with him.

Chuck Schumer: Well, here’s the problem. The Republicans in the Senate and the House have been run by a hard right group, an almost Tea Party group. And they are so far away from where we are…

Dana Bash: But now they’ve got a deal maker in the White House, just like you.

But hey, don’t worry folks, there’s no liberal media bias here. It’s just a reporter telling a Democrat that he’s the awesome good guy deal maker who loves bipartisanship… even though he just said he won’t work with Trump unless he “abandons his Republican colleagues” and “moves completely in our direction.” Because it’s the Republicans who are obstructionists…
