Don’t make too much of teenagers and their political views.

That’s usually solid advice. Because at that age they change a lot. And these days the twenties are often the new teens. So it’s not too surprising that the left’s new socialist role model had a bunch of different views. And probably still will. Because as her interviews make clear, she doesn’t really know anything. And just has the millennial skill to position her brand, but there’s nothing underneath.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the socialist congressional candidate from New York who touts honesty and authenticity as her greatest strengths, used to describe herself as a follower of Adam Smith, the so-called father of capitalism — and said that terms like “feminism” and “empowerment” were “relics from the past.”

In a 2009 blog post, Ocasio-Cortez called feminism into question, writing that “the terms ‘feminism’ and ‘empowerment’ don’t seem to capture the priorities of our generation, and the words themselves sound like relics from the past, frumpy and outdated.”

“We no longer live in the same fight for equality of prior generations, we have moved to the widely accepted reality that marginalizing 50% of a given population doesn’t make much sense, mathematically or socially,” she wrote.

I suspect that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez largely parrots whatever views are on her current radar. In college, she drifted into a more sensible academic niche and echoed those views. Then she drifted into activism and parroted their views. As her Firing Line interview made very clear, she doesn’t know anything, can’t explain her views and is just an overgrown teen who got elected to the House.

That’s the left’s role model for tomorrow.
