On Friday the Department of Justice said that Attorney General Jeff Sessions is seeking the resignation of 46 US attorneys who were appointed by the Obama administration.

A spokeswoman for the DOJ said that the move is part of an effort to ensure a “uniform transition.”

While some attorneys had already left the department, in much the same way other prior transitions take place,  the spokeswoman said, “The Attorney General has now asked the remaining 46 presidentially appointed U.S. Attorneys to tender their resignations.”

“Until the new U.S. Attorneys are confirmed, the dedicated career prosecutors in our U.S. Attorney’s Offices will continue the great work of the Department in investigating, prosecuting, and deterring the most violent offenders,” she added.

“As was the case in prior transitions, many of the United States Attorneys nominated by the previous administration already have left the Department of Justice,” the spokeswoman said.

It is not automatic, but it is customary for the 93 US attorneys to leave their positions when a new administration is in office.  While the Obama administration did allow Bush appointees to remain in office till their replacements were nominated and confirmed, Rod Rosenstein of Maryland remained at his job for the entire two terms of Barack Obama.  He is also the current nominee for deputy attorney general.

“I’m surprised to hear that President Trump and Attorney General Sessions have abruptly fired all 46 remaining U.S. attorneys,” said Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), who recently said during the confirmation hearing of Rosenstein that “There is a real danger… the Justice Department could become politicized.”

“In January, I met with Vice President Pence and White House Counsel Donald McGahn and asked specifically whether all U.S. attorneys would be fired at once,” she added.  “Mr. McGahn told me that the transition would be done in an orderly fashion to preserve continuity. Clearly, this is not the case. I’m very concerned about the effect of this sudden and unexpected decision on federal law enforcement.”

No, Senator Feinstein is simply politicizing the issue.  There is no cause for concern here at all.

The call for resignations did come as a surprise to at least one US attorney.  The Hill reports:

The call for resignations applies to Preet Bharara, the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, The New York Times reported.

The move is a surprise, as Bharara reportedly met with Trump after the election and agreed to remain in his position during the Trump administration. Sessions also asked him to stay, the prosecutor told The New York Times.

After what has happened with leaks and such inside the administration, one would think President Donald Trump would be wise to remove anyone that he believed he could not trust.  If you are tied to Barack Hussein Obama Soetoro Sobarkah, then, in my opinion, you have tied yourself to a trust issue in this administration.
