Bernie & Kamala: Convicted Terrorists & Rapists Should Be Allowed To Vote From Prison

These people like to cozy up with other criminals, have you noticed that?  Potential 202 presidential candidates Senators Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Kamala Harris (D-CA) both think that convicted terrorists and rapists should be allowed to vote from the comfort of their prison cells.

On Monday, Bernie Sanders was asked about his endorsement of allowing convicted felons to vote from prison.  Specifically, he was asked about the convicted Boston Marathon bomber and those convicted of sexual assault.

Without addressing the question posed, Sanders said that what his campaign was about was creating a “vibrant democracy,” something that the Constitution knows nothing about, but because Sanders is a Socialist, that is what he is pushing.

Sanders claims that he wants to see America have one of the highest voter turnouts in the world.

He did rightly say that if younger people voted in similar percentages as older people they “would transform this nation.”  However, the question must be asked, transform it into what, Bernie?  He never answers that in a similar manner to when you ask a “pro-choice” person what that choice they are referencing actually is being spoken about.

Sanders then goes on to attack Republican governors and legislatures who he claims are “making more difficult for young people to vote.”

He claims that it is “undemocratic” and “unAmerican.”

Of course, Sanders went on to lie right to the people’s faces as he “answers the question.”  He said that the Constitution says that “everyone can vote” and that’s how it’s been “since the very first days of our state’s (Vermont) history.”

But neither the US Constitution nor the Vermont Constitution says “everyone can vote.”  There are limitations on those who may participate in the election process.

However, he went on to state, “So, people in jail can vote.”

Um, what?  I do recall that voting is a liberty citizens have in this country, and if those people are convicted, that liberty can be removed.

No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation. – Fifth Amendment, US Constitution

In other words, if these people have been convicted, they forfeit the right to vote.  They have gone through due process of law and thus they can lawfully be barred from voting.  Sanders is just lying through his teeth.

While he says people who commit “serious crimes” such as murder or sexual assault will be in jail, he still believes that voting is an “inherent right for our democracy, yes, even for terrible people.”

Actually, it’s a right for citizens, and plenty of “terrible people” vote all the time.  Sanders and other Socialists, Communists and Islamists cast votes every chance they get.  That is not a reason to then allow those convicted of such crimes as mentioned to vote.

By the way, Bernie Sanders, like most people in government nowadays needs to learn a basic civics lesson and understand that the US is not a democracy, but a republic.

Sanders isn’t the only one that needs that lesson.

During a CNN town hall event in New Hampshire on Monday, Sen. Kamala Harris seemed to go right along with fellow Socialist Bernie Sanders when a question was posed to her about felons voting from prison.  She said a “conversation” was in order about the possibility.  For those who don’t understand, that means that she approves of it or else she would have simply said convicted, imprisoned felons should not be voting.

Here’s the transcript:

DON LEMON, CNN HOST: Another issue that I want to talk to you about — this is really important — I’m not sure if you were watching earlier, but Senator Bernie Sanders said that he is in favor of felons being able to vote while serving in prison. He was asked specifically about people like the Boston Marathon bomber, also people who are convicted of sexual assault. And he said, this is a quote, “The right to vote is inherent to our democracy, yes, even for terrible people.” Do you agree with that, Senator?

SEN. KAMALA HARRIS (D-CA), DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE: I agree that the right to vote is one of the very important components of citizenship and it is something that people should not be stripped of needlessly, which is why I have been long an advocate of making sure that the formally incarcerated are not denied a right to vote, which is the case in so many states in our country, in some states permanently deprived of the right to vote.

And these are policies that go back to Jim Crow. These are policies that go back to the heart of policies that have been about disenfranchisement, policies that continue until today, and we need to take it seriously.

LEMON: But people who are in — convicted, in prison, like the Boston Marathon bomber, on death row, people who are convicted of sexual assault, they should be able to vote?

HARRIS: I think we should have that conversation.
