China: U.S. Is “Playing With Fire” After More Rulers Sent To Taiwan

As more members of the United States ruling class are sent to Taiwan, China replies with a warning that it shouldn’t “play with fire.” Yet, the rulers seem to like to instigate a world war situation.

Less than two weeks after House Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan ratcheted up tensions with China’s government, another U.S. congressional delegation met with Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen in Taipei Monday, The Associated Press reported.

Senator Ed Markey (D-Mass.) is leading a five-member delegation to the self-governing island as part of a larger trip to the Indo-Pacific region, according to a statement from the American Institute in Taiwan, the de facto U.S. embassy. Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that as “China is continuing to escalate tensions in the region, the U.S. Congress has again organized a heavyweight delegation to visit Taiwan.”

It appears that the U.S. is provoking China, considering they didn’t get the reaction they wanted after Pelosi’s visit two weeks ago. Her visit pushed China to initiate days of military drills near Taiwan, which Taipei said were meant to simulate an attack.

This recent trip shows “a friendship that is not afraid of China’s threats and intimidation and highlighting the U.S.’ strong support towards Taiwan,” the statement added. Meanwhile, China’s state-run Xinhua news agency ran an editorial Sunday headlined: “U.S. politicians should stop playing with fire on Taiwan question,” according to a report by Axios.

Is the U.S. “calling China’s bluff?” Or are they provoking a response? It could be both, but it’s definitely not neither.

“Taiwan is China’s Taiwan, and the Taiwan issue permits no foreign interference,” China’s defense ministry said in a statement on Monday, as the military announced more drills. “The People’s Liberation Army continues to train and prepare for war,” it said according to a report by The New York Times.
