“I am concerned that people will not abide by recommendations,…”

Every few months, Fauci, who once used to dominate the news, pops up from his burrow to forecast another season of masking. It’s long past the point where anyone really pays attention to him. The former oracle of pandemic theater has become just more background noise.

Much like COVID-19 has become endemic, Fauci appearances have also become endemic.

Former White House chief medical adviser Anthony Fauci on Saturday defended masking amid a rise in COVID cases across the country, saying he hopes people would listen to advice from health officials.

In an interview on CNN, Fauci said he is worried Americans won’t listen to recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) — even if masking becomes necessary again.

“I am concerned that people will not abide by recommendations,” he said. “I would hope that if we get to the point that the volume of cases is such and organizations like the CDC recommends — CDC does not mandate anything — recommends that people wear masks, I would hope that people abide by that recommendation and take into account the risks to themselves and their families.”

Fauci was against masks before being for masks. The idea that masks solve anything has been demolished in study after study, and there’s no meaningful data points showing that masks reduced the impact.

Back in the day, Fauci quipped, “there’s no reason to be walking around with a mask” and then later explained that he lied to everyone to protect the supply of masks for health care workers.

“I don’t regret anything I said then because in the context of the time in which I said it, it was correct. We were told in our task force meetings that we have a serious problem with the lack of PPEs and masks for the health providers who are putting themselves in harm’s way every day to take care of sick people.”

And Fauci wonders why he and the CDC have zero credibility.

COVID theater has become endemic and cultural. The people who pay attention to it have already bought into it. Most people have jettisoned it and will go on doing so despite warnings and Fauci’s scoldings.

The real threat may once again be not to individuals, but to elections.

COVID was used to dramatically change election rules in 2020. There’s good reason to think that at least some of those who benefited from that may try it again.
