FBI Deputy Director Steps Down After Director Read The FISA Memo
An interesting turn of events indeed! FBI Director Christopher Wray reportedly read Rep. Nunes’ FISA report on Sunday and on Monday it was announced that FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe has stepped down. “A source confirmed to Fox News Andrew McCabe is taking “terminal leave” – effectively taking vacation until he reaches his planned retirement in a matter of weeks. As such, he will not be reporting to work at the FBI anymore.”
McCabe, who was very involved in the FBI’s investigation of Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server, has been widely criticized for his failure to disclose that his wife, Dr. Jill McCabe, who was running for a statewide office in Virginia at that time, had accepted a large donation ($467,500) from one of Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe’s political action committees plus $200,000 more from the Virginia Democratic party.
This was quite significant because McAuliffe is a very close friend of Bill and Hillary Clinton and it clearly represents a conflict of interests.
McCabe had previously announced he would be retiring in 2018, but his abrupt departure today was likely triggered by Christopher Wray’s assessment of the FISA memo this weekend.
The members of the House Intelligence Committee are expected to vote on whether or not to release the FISA memo tonight.
Chad Pergram of Fox News informs us “Trump has five days to review memo before release but could waive that requirement.
This means the memo could be public in days…Trump wants the memo to be released.”
Based on the strong reactions by all concerned parties, the FISA memo will likely be consequential.
At the moment, we can point to several smoking guns.
First, the Director of the FBI read it one day, and the Deputy Director’s employment is terminated the next.
Republicans want the memo released immediately.
They are very anxious to do so.
Finally, most Democrats have been arguing vehemently against its release, the loudest being Rep. Adam Schiff.
It’s probably safe to say, in the words of FBI official Peter Strzok, there’s some “there” there.
Hopefully, its release will answer the questions that Republicans in Congress and many Americans have been waiting for.
It’s starting to get a bit smoky in here!
