One of the most irritating things to experience is when someone speaks about a topic of which they are ignorant—to sit and hear them completely misrepresent something that you know and love.  You might be tempted to laugh at first, but then you realize that others, as ignorant as the person speaking, might be fooled by their misinformation.  This is when the anger sets in. And the President has done just that.

Following release of interview footage with Barack Obama and Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Marilynne Robinson, some are expressing concern about Obama’s remarks regarding those of the Christian faith.

It is funny that a man who has been anything but flattering to the Christian religion over the past year has anything to say concerning the faith.  Besides the fact that every policy decision he makes is in direct opposition to the Scriptures, he has no real reason to say the things he does…unless the man is seeking to draw the weak away from true faith.

Christian News reports:

“But you’ve struggled with the fact that here in the United States, sometimes Christian interpretation seems to posit an ‘us versus them,’ and those are sometimes the loudest voices,” he said. “But sometimes I think you also get frustrated with kind of the wishy-washy, more liberal versions where anything goes.”

Now, the President has outlined three clear groups for us.  We have the first group—those who feel that the Christian is on one side and the rest of the world is on the other side.  These people believe that they are right, and the rest of humanity is wrong.

The second group are those who have no boundaries at all.  They believe that anything goes.  All you have to do is believe that Christ died for your sins, and everything else is unimportant.  Just keep living as you always have and love Jesus.

The third group is Obama, Robinson, and those like them.  They are the “middle ground Christians.”  These people are serious about their faith—at least, that is what they represent.  They believe that they are not so serious as to exclude other religions, but not so inclusive as to allow just anything.

The problem is that the second and third views are in opposition to Scripture.  It is easy to convince yourself that God is pleased that you are accepting of people—that you love all people equally.  But the reality is this kind of thinking is opposed by Christ.

Matthew 12:30 reads:

He who is not with Me is against Me; and he who does not gather with Me scatters.

Now, this is given in the context of Christ casting out demons.  He was accused of casting them out by the power of Beelzebub (Satan).  In response, he gives the statement about a house divided and points out that he soon was going to bind the strong man (Satan).  Then comes this remarkable statement.  “He who is not with Me. . .”  Those who did not believe and were not working for Christ’s Kingdom ” . . .is against Me.”  This would mean that the first group might be on to something.

If you are not with Christ, you are against Him.  This means that seriousness and sincerity have nothing to do with this issue.  If you are in the middle and accepting of all people, regardless of what they believe or how they live, then you are not with Christ.  If you believe that anything goes and disregard Scripture, then you are not with Christ.

No matter what Obama or Robinson say about this understanding, without it, you are opposed to Christ.  You are with or against; there is no middle ground.
