A California woman demonstrated that no good deed goes unnoticed.  After a man returned her cashier’s check in the amount of $676, she set up a GoFundMe page to reward him for being a Good Samaritan.

Yesenia Ortiz-Del Valle lost a cashiers check for $676 on April 18, 2017.

“Somehow it flew away,” she told ABC 10 News. “I was going crazy. Literally, I went home and I was crying.”

She had the check, along with another one to pay her taxes in Imperial Beach.  She thought she had lost the money forever.

However, t was returned to her the same evening to her home by a man named Sergio Juarez.

“My tire was on it,” Juarez said. “I looked at it and go [to my wife] ‘honey, I think this is a check.'”

Juarez said it didn’t cross his mind to keep the money.

“It’s not my money. It’s her money,” he said. “Whether it’s twenty-five cents or $4,000, I don’t care what it is, it’s not your money.”

“I got scared,” Del Valle said when Juarez showed up at her door. “I was scared to open the door at first.”

While she was surprised that he had gone to so much trouble to return her money and was very thankful, she soon realized that Sergio needed her help.

Juarez was living with his wife and children in a motel nearby after losing his house.  He claims that he and his family have been homeless for three years.  His wife was laid off and he lost his job as a custodian at Southwestern College.

He also broke his arm while he worked a temporary job and has been receiving disability.

“There’s a lot of families that are going through what I’m going through,” Juarez said. “From living in Otay Ranch, nice area, beautiful park, to where you’re living in a hotel.”

“I was touched by his actions and how he initially refused to take any reward,” she wrote on the GoFundMe page.  ” There’s still A lot of good people in the world, and Sergio is a living example.”

“[Del Valle] wants to [raise] $5,000 and I’m like ‘Wow’ and I told my wife and I’m like ‘Honey, do you believe it?’ and she goes ‘Mijo, it’s the Lord.'”

“That day, he was my miracle,” Del Valle said. “And then I ended up being his miracle.”

Juarez says his dream job is to be a supervisor for Environmental Services and provide his wife with a kitchen.

As of the writing of this article, almost 500 people have donated nearly $15,000 to help Sergio and his family.
