President Trump to James Comey: “You’re Fired!”

On Tuesday, President Donald Trump finally got around to terminating FBI Director James Comey in a desire to “find new leadership.”

In a letter to Director Comey from Trump, the president wrote, “I have received the attached letters from the Attorney General and Deputy Attorney General of the United States recommending your dismissal as the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.  I have accepted their recommendation and you are hereby terminated and removed from office, effective immediately.”

“While I greatly appreciate you informing me, on three separate occasions, that I am not under investigation, I nevertheless concur with the judgment of the Department of Justice that you are not able to effectively lead the Bureau,” Trump added.

“It is essential that we find new leadership for the FBI that restores public trust and confidence in its vital law enforcement mission,” he continued.  “I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors.”

The firing comes just days after Comey testified on Capitol Hill regarding the FBI’s investigation into the alleged collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign.

Trump commented regarding the firing saying, “The FBI is one of our Nation’s most cherished and respected institutions and today will mark a new beginning for our crown jewel of law enforcement.”

Of course, there is a reason behind the firing.  Here are the letter from the Justice Department.

According to Deputy Attorney General Rod J. Rosenstein not only was Comey’s handling of the Clinton email investigation into the Clinton email scandal indefensible, but he went on to write, “The Director was wrong to usurp the Attorney General’s authority on July 5, 2016, and announce his conclusion that the case should be closed without prosecution.”

“It is not the function of the Director to make such an announcement,” Rosenstein added.  “At most, the Director should have said the FBI had completed its investigation and presented its findings to federal prosecutors.”

Rosenstein said that Comey “announced his own conclusions about the nation’s most sensitive criminal investigation, without the authorization of duly appointed Justice Department leaders.”

Additionally, Comey held a press conference, something that was against “longstanding principle,” to release derogatory information about the subject of a declined criminal investigation.”

Commentator Jeff Dunetz writes:

If that was the only reason Comey would have been fired as soon as President Trump was inaugurated. More likely Comey’s recent testimony which many people was both bizarre and narcissistic– he exaggerated the extent of the letters Huma Abedin forwarded to her husband, causing the FBI to send the committee a letter of apology and he refused to say that his moves regarding the Hillary emails were wrong, that testimony may have been the straw that broke the camel’s back.

In fact in his letter Rosenstein criticized Comey’s testimony, specifically his language saying that if he didn’t tell congress about reopening the investigation it would be concealment. The Deputy AG pointed that conceal was a “loaded word that misstates the issue.”

Tom Fitton, president of government watchdog Judicial Watch which has sued via Freedom of Information Act countless times to obtain documents related to the Clinton email scandal, released a statement on the firing of Comey.

“This is an important move to restore public confidence in the fair administration of justice at the federal level,” said Fitton.  “Mr. Comey did not seem to understand some of the laws he was asked to enforce and unfortunately politicized his sensitive position as the FBI director. President Trump took the right step in cleaning house at the FBI.”

Of course, liberals are having a cow over the firing.  Former State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki tweeted, “This should not be sugar coated.  Firing Comey is up there in terms of the scariest things Trump has done.”

Really?  Scariest things?  Only if Psaki was in on the criminal activity going on in the State Department under then-Secretary Hillary Clinton.

Look, FBI directors have been fired before.  President Bill Clinton fired William S. Sessions as director of the FBI in July 1993.

The firing of Comey is a good thing.  He ‘s just been covering for those he is joined at the hip with and enriching himself through to the tune of millions of dollars.
