President Trump announced Thursday he will pardon conservative filmmaker and author
Dinesh D’Souza, saying that he had been “treated very unfairly by our government,” but there is still no word from the White House on any pardon to Oregon ranchers Dwight and Steven Hammond who were also treated very unfairly by the government.

“Today, President Donald J. Trump issued an Executive Grant of Clemency (Full Pardon) to Dinesh D’Souza, an accomplished author, lecturer, and scholar,” said a statement from White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders. “Mr. D’Souza was, in the President’s opinion, a victim of selective prosecution for violations of campaign finance laws.  Mr. D’Souza accepted responsibility for his actions, and also completed community service by teaching English to citizens and immigrants seeking citizenship.”

Fox News reports:

D’Souza told Fox News he received a call from the president on Wednesday to notify him of the decision.

“I am thrilled and relieved and elated and as an immigrant in America, my American dream has been under something of a cloud, so I’m very relieved to have that cloud lifted,” D’Souza told Fox News on Thursday.

D’Souza said he and Trump spoke for about 10 minutes, calling it a “very pleasant and very exciting call.”

“President Trump told me he felt I had been treated very unfairly and he felt that I was an important voice for America,” D’Souza said. “He wanted to clean my record and adhere to continue doing what I’m doing.”

D’Souza later tweeted, “Obama & his stooges tried to extinguish my American dream & destroy my faith in America. Thank you @realDonaldTrump for fully restoring both.”

I’m thrilled for Mr. D’Souza, but I wonder why the Trump administration has not taken to caring for the Hammond family in light of the injustices they faced at the hands of the federal government.

Last week, I reported on a petition at the White House website which called for the pardoning of Dwight and Steven Hammond over what many of us see as an injustice. Immediately following that report, there was talk of clemency for the two men, but we’ve seen no action yet.

The Hammond’s case was not one of trying to silence political opposition so much as it was trying to steal the land and resources out from under these ranchers and commit gross injustices against them by caging them for five years and claiming they were terrorists.

What one needs to understand is that the federal government not only unconstitutionally claims they own the land, but reports fail to identify why they want these ranchers to fail.  They want them to fail because they want the land.

The Hammond ranch, like the Bundy Ranch, is a very rich property.  In the Bundy’s case, water rights were at stake.  In the Hammond’s case, it was minerals, including Uranium ore.

Pardoning these men would be a major first step at the federal government acknowledging their wrongdoing in the matter.

President Trump, why won’t you fast track a pardon for the Hammonds?  They have been embroiled in injustice far longer than Mr. D’Souza, and while I applaud the move to pardon D’Souza, these men should receive the same consideration you gave to him, and the same swiftness of execution, Sir.
