Nathan Engert, 31, of Kansas City said, “I was just working from home, talking on the telephone because I’ve been battling poison ivy since the weekend, and, the next thing I knew I told a co-worker to hold on because I heard the
doorbell ring and then I heard two loud bangs.”
Seconds after the men broke into the house, Engert, who is 6’2″, 200 pounds and a trained martial artist said, “I run down the hallway and see these guys come inside my house. I have the confidence that I could take them. There was no physical threat, but it was just awful because they were inside my home and it felt like they violated me.”
“I know it sounds a little weird, but thankfully I have poison ivy and that I was home, otherwise, I wouldn’t have been here Tuesday morning around 11 a.m. when they broke into my home. They could’ve gotten away with everything,” Engert told WDAF.
“They were more surprised than I was,” Engert said. “They were way more scared than I was.”
The men ran out of the house and jumped into their car and sped away.
Good thing for these guys too, since Engert is trained in
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Last year, Engert’s home was broken into by an intruder and he installed a
security camera. That burglary cleaned him out.
He said that he hopes the event will scare the men enough so that no one else has to face the same violated feeling and hopes the criminals will inform their friends that they may just face another incident like that, which may result in their arrest or something more serious.
While no arrests have been made as of the writing of this article, police were able to retrieve DNA evidence from the
television, which was touched by one of the intruders.
