Anti-Establishment Urges Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell To Resign
Conservative leaders are now calling on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) to resign, along with other GOP senators who are impeding the Trump administration’s agenda.
“We call on all five members of the GOP Senate leadership to step down, or for their caucus to remove them as soon as possible,” Ken Cuccinelli, the former attorney general of Virginia who now leads the Senate Conservatives Fund, said at a Wednesday press conference on Capitol Hill.
In a letter that was signed by Cuccinelli, Jenny Beth Martin, co-founder of Tea Party Patriots, Adam Brandon, president of FreedomWorks, Brent Bozell, chairman of ForAmerica, David Bozell, president of ForAmerica and Richard Viguerie, a political direct mail pioneer, they called out McConnell’s obvious lack of leadership to advance the GOP agenda, thus being complicit in aiding the Democrat agenda.

Fox News reports:
All the leaders come from anti-Republican establishment organizations with ties to the Tea Party movement. They have long been thorns in McConnell’s side and have backed conservative challengers to Republican incumbents in Senate races. They include representatives from FreedomWorks, the Tea Party Patriots and For America.
“Mitch McConnell has been a failure in the Senate and has cost Republicans almost a year of victories,” said Adam Brandon, president of FreedomWorks. “He has demonstrated that he either does not understand the frustration coming from conservatives and the urgency of passing key legislation – or he does not care.”
“If this was a football team, and you’d lost this many times, you’d start seriously considering firing the coaches,” said David Bozell, the president of For America.
They distributed a letter sent to McConnell, where they outlined their criticism of the GOP leadership. Some of the groups have called for McConnell’s ouster before.
“You and the rest of your leadership team were given the majority because you pledged to stop the steady flow of illegal immigration,” the letter states. “You have done nothing. You pledged to reduce the size of this oppressive federal government. You have done nothing. You pledged to reduce, and ultimately eliminate the out-of-control deficit spending that is bankrupting America. You have done nothing. You promised to repeal Obamacare, ‘root and branch.’ You have done nothing. You promised tax reform. You have done nothing.”
The letter, which was addressed to McConnell, Majority Whip John Cornyn (R-TX), Roy Blunt (R-MO), John Thune (R-SD), and John Barrasso (R-WY), added, “You were not going to ‘drain the swamp.’ You are the swamp.”
Despite Republicans controlling the House, the Senate and the White House, they have virtually done nothing by playing “nicey nice” with Democrats.
“2017 has been a disappointing year for the millions of Americans who fully expected, and had every right to expect real change in Washington. Republicans were given full control of the federal government. They – you – have done nothing,” the letter stated.
Additionally, the letter points out that the Senate has basically approved “less than one judge a month” of Trump’s judicial nominees, which only seven have been confirmed.
The letter also pointed out several agenda items that were passed by the House and yet, the Senate tanked them.
“President Trump and the House of Representatives have done their part,” the letter said. “You sank it all.”
Now, to be fair, some of those items were not what the American people wanted, at least concerning the repeal of Obamacare. They were not repeals at all. They left the whole of Obamacare in place, but there have been lots that the GOP simply has failed to deliver on rather than advancing the agenda they promised those who voted for them.
However, I’m glad to see that some people are speaking out loud enough to get these guys quaking in their boots. I think come 2018, we’re going to see a lot of establishment GOP House and Senate members eliminated.
