Congressman: “I Would Love To … Regulate The Content Of Speech”

You know, often we react to things emotionally and would love to “regulate” others on things we disagree with, and the representatives of the people are human.  Fortunately, our forefathers put in plain English the First Amendment that specifically states “Congress shall make no law… abridging the freedom of speech.”  Yet, they have done it on so many occasions in violation of their oaths of office and criminal acts against the people.  Now, California Democrat Congressman Ted Lieu says he would love to regulate speech too.

“I would love to be able to regulate the content of speech. The First Amendment prevents me from doing so…” Lieu told CNN concerning the testimony of Google CEO Sundar Pichai at a House Judiciary Committee hearing.

OK, well, at least he gets it… for now, but many in his party and even the Republican Party don’t.  They have advanced anti-free speech bills into “law,” though they are unlawful.

Government agencies have taken it upon themselves to establish “free speech zones” in certain places, as if they have such authority to do so.

Lieu’s comments came in answering a question about Google and other tech companies being used to stop the spread of what she calls “conspiracy theories” and “online trolling.”

“It’s a very good point you make,” Lieu said. “I would love if I could have more than five minutes to question witnesses. Unfortunately, I don’t get that opportunity. However, I would love to be able to regulate the content of speech. The First Amendment prevents me from doing so, and that’s simply a function of the First Amendment, but I think over the long run, it’s better the government does not regulate the content of speech.”

However, he still said he wants to encourage those companies to do just that.

Well, isn’t that a conflict of interest for a man who says it’s a good thing the free speech isn’t violated in the long run and is hindered by the First Amendment in his position as a representative?  One would think so.

Lieu, showing his political bias, also said he would like to regulate Fox News.

He mentioned nothing about CNN, who has decades worth of documented lies they’ve told the American people, been bought and paid for by the government to produce propaganda and have completely fabricated news out of thin air… or on a stage.

Yeah, Rep. Lieu has no business being near the Capitol building with the thinking that he has.  Sure, he’ll talk about the First Amendment stopping him, but behind closed doors, we know he is working to infringe on our rights.

Of course, in addition to the interview and the tweet above, he even told the people how much he would love to violate their rights.

“I would love to regulate your speech, but thank goodness the First Amendment prevents me, @POTUS, and Republicans from doing so.
Get it? I’m defending the First Amendment,” he tweeted.

Don’t believe it for a minute.  A man that tells you he would love to violate the law is secretly working to violate the law.  He’s just putting on a face for you because of the backlash.

In fact, and I’ll write more on this later, but congressmen like Ted Lieu have stated that the First Amendment is not unlimited and they can restrict it and have in an attempt to restrict and regulate the rights of the people protected under the Second Amendment.
