Cross in Santa Clara Park Removed because of Whiny Anti-Theist

This story continues to play itself out over and over again across our nation. A symbol of our Christian heritage, set up decades ago, is removed because it upsets someone. Usually, it is one person. They are “forced” to come into contact with a statue, Ten Commandments monument, or a cross.

They claim they are oppressed by these symbols and do not want their tax money used to maintain these symbols. They call in their enforcer and cities cave under the pressure. Faced with legal expenses and tight budgets it is easier to give in to the fascists.

Sadly it has happened again, in Santa Clara.

The Christian Post reports:

A California city has removed a 14-foot tall granite cross from a public park after receiving a legal complaint from a local man and the nation’s largest atheist group.

Santa Clara officials removed the large cross last week following legal action by the Wisconsin-based Freedom From Religion Foundation, donating it to Santa Clara University, a Jesuit academic institution.
FFRF Co-President Annie Laurie Gaylor said in a statement released Tuesday that with Santa Clara’s decision “reason and the Constitution have prevailed.”

What reason? What Constitution? Neither have anything to do with citizens suing their town over a sculpture. The attitude of these people is infantile. All we have to do is read what they say in their legal filing.

The Post continues:

“The second plaintiff, Andrew DeFaria, is a member of FFRF and a resident of the city. He objects to the display and maintenance of the cross and has had unwanted and unwelcome contact with it,” read the suit.

“He does not want to continue enduring the unwelcome contact with this clear symbol of the Christian religion and objects to the city’s maintenance of such a blatant religious symbol, and he also objects to the city’s endorsement of and display of its preference for the Christian religion.”

Endure? Unwanted contact? With a sculpture? What was the cross doing, calling DeFaria to repent? Was it threatening him with eternal damnation in Hell? This is very unlikely, but even if this was true, there is another remedy for this problem. DeFaria could always stop going to the park. Better yet, just stop walking by the cross altogether. My mother always said that if you had a problem with someone, avoid them.

As far as the maintenance of the Cross with DeFaria’s tax dollars, we do not get to make that choice. Those choices are made at the ballot box.  If we did, I would not be paying taxes for public schools and universities.

We all have something we have to live with, but this cross must just be too heavy for DeFaria to bear.
