Former Congressman Reveals Why The “Bipartisanship” Spoken Of In #SOTU Hurts Americans

Former Texas Congressman Ron Paul live tweeted throughout the State of the Union address on Tuesday evening and pointed out that much of the talk about bipartisanship is actually bad for Americans.

Paul put out an early tweet in which he said he would be commenting on the speech.

Dr. Paul has always been on who has stood on his principles and stayed the course, even when it was unpopular continued to speak out on the things he always has spoken out on.

“Lots of praise for bipartisanship and “coming together” but coming together is not really the answer if it means coming together on bad foreign policy, bad monetary policy, deficit financing, massive military spending and foreign entanglements,” Paul tweeted in response to President Trump’s statement, even though much of the time Democrats were sitting on their hands.

President Trump then voiced his approval of experimental drugs for the terminally ill.

To speed access to breakthrough cures and affordable generic drugs, last year the FDA approved more new and generic drugs and medical devices than ever before in our history.

We also believe that patients with terminal conditions should have access to experimental treatments that could potentially save their lives.

People who are terminally ill should not have to go from country to country to seek a cure — I want to give them a chance right here at home. It is time for the Congress to give these wonderful Americans the “right to try.”

One of my greatest priorities is to reduce the price of prescription drugs. In many other countries, these drugs cost far less than what we pay in the United States. That is why I have directed my Administration to make fixing the injustice of high drug prices one of our top priorities. Prices will come down.

Dr. Paul rightly agreed, but then added, “But in a free market all free individuals should be able to make decisions on what kinds of medicine they wish to take. Like marijuana.”

That’s exactly right!  After all, the Food and Drug Administration is simply another branch of government in DC that should never have existed in the first place and is responsible for approving numerous drugs which have killed hundreds of thousands of people, according to its own website.

Paul also added that the war on drugs was only fueling the problem that Trump spoke about when he mentioned open borders.

“Expanding the war on drugs is NOT the way to solve the problem! Get rid of the drug war!” Paul tweeted.

Exactly! The war on drugs has been used to violate the rights of the people to confiscate their cash and property under the guise of asset forfeiture, something that is a clear violation of the Constitution’s protections for due process of law, as well as be used to engage in “no-knock raids,” that end in dead, innocent people quite often.

The war on drugs needs to be completely abandoned.

Trump also spoke about a duty he has to protect Americans’ safety.

“My duty, and the sacred duty of every elected official in this chamber, is to defend Americans — to protect their safety, their families, their communities, and their right to the American Dream. Because Americans are dreamers too.”

While the line, “Because Americans are dreamers too” was actually a brilliant statement, the fact is that under our Constitution, the president is responsible to “defend” us and our rights from attack.  That is very different from protecting our “safety.”

“Prime function of the Federal government is NOT protecting our safety! It is the preservation of our Liberty. That forgotten word…” Paul reminded those paying attention.  That is the one thing that has been lost in all this “protecting our safety” since 9/11.  Just try boarding a plane to find out how much those rights that are to be protected under the Fourth Amendment are being violated.

Of course, there was talk of the build up of military might, as well, something that President Dwight Eisenhower warned us about before he left office, and his warning was tied to what has now been commonly called “The Military Industrial Complex.”

Trump stated:

Around the world, we face rogue regimes, terrorist groups, and rivals like China and Russia that challenge our interests, our economy, and our values. In confronting these dangers, we know that weakness is the surest path to conflict, and unmatched power is the surest means of our defense.

For this reason, I am asking the Congress to end the dangerous defense sequester and fully fund our great military.

As part of our defense, we must modernize and rebuild our nuclear arsenal, hopefully never having to use it, but making it so strong and powerful that it will deter any acts of aggression. Perhaps someday in the future there will be a magical moment when the countries of the world will get together to eliminate their nuclear weapons. Unfortunately, we are not there yet.

Dr. Paul had lots to say on the subject.

“We’re not lacking power. We are the most powerful country in the history of the world — weapons, military, etc. We don’t need more spending to enrich the military-industrial complex!” he tweeted.

“7,500 nukes are enough. We don’t need any more nukes!” Paul added.

In speaking of the 17-year conflict in Afghanistan, Trump said:

I am also asking the Congress to ensure that, in the fight against ISIS and al-Qa’ida, we continue to have all necessary power to detain terrorists — wherever we chase them down. Our warriors in Afghanistan also have new rules of engagement. Along with their heroic Afghan partners, our military is no longer undermined by artificial timelines, and we no longer tell our enemies our plans

However, Dr. Paul responded by calling for an end to the American Empire and bring our troops back home where they belong to defend us here.

He wrote, “Occupation is the greatest incentive for Americans to be attacked. If you want us safe, bring our troops home from 150+ countries!”

He went on to tweet the following.

The one thing not really stated was a defending of our rights by the government that was established by the states to do just that.  Paul called out that failure.

“All politicians take an oath to defend the Constitution agains threats foreign and domestic. Sadly they have little consideration about those domestic threats.”

Well, that’s for dang sure, and has been most noticable over the past 8 years under the usurper-in-chief, Barack Hussein Obama Soetoro Sobarkah, and the years prior under George W. Bush and the rise of the Patriot Act and other unconstitutional legislation that infringes on the rights of the people.

America’s greatest threat to its freedom comes directly from representatives in Washington, DC who will not keep their oath.

Paul ended his commentary by stating in summary:  “The most dangerous part of the speech was the glorification of militarism and our aggressive foreign policy. Sadly, the Members’ over-enthusiastic response to the militarism was not encouraging.”

I have to point out to people that claim Ron Paul doesn’t want a strong defense and is an isolationist that he promotes “defense,” not aggression and empire building.  That’s hardly a pacifist.  He also promotes true, free markets and real, free trade with other countries believing that economic interests would be a strong deterrent to making enemies.  That’s hardly an isolationist.

While there were excerpts from the speech that were inspiring and positive, no amount of economic growth, military growth or unconstitutional legislation will protect your rights.  They may grow the military industrial complex and the power of the political elites, but they will not do the very thing our government was instituted to do.
