Indulgences: Didn’t The Church Used To Sell Tickets To Heaven & Make A lot Of Money? It Wasn’t The Church!
“Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.” -1 Timothy 6:5
A post that has been circulating and making the rounds over the last week stated, “Take the money out of preaching and see how many remain.”
I understood what the person may have been saying due to the fact that they have seen too many of the hirelings (Kenneth Copeland, Jesse Duplantis, Creflo Dollars, Joyce Myers, Benny Hinn, Steven Furtick, Joel Osteen, etc.) begging in what they believe to be the church (John 10:12). This is not the church, this is a lack of Christianity.

Yet, to those who devised this post, who haven’t taken the time to make biblical distinctions, this is on them and their lack of understanding, not on the faithful.
Again, those making accusations should have taken the time to know the difference (Ezekiel 44:23). You don’t blame the obedient for the likes of the disobedient.
Furthermore, nobody warned of covetousness more than Christ (Luke 12:15).
Obviously, the person who created the post doesn’t work for free and neither do the faithful that preach the true Gospel. Scripture tells us, “Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel” (1 Corinthians 9:14).
In conclusion: A student at a college being indebted and indoctrinated by his favorite communist professor in an American college today confronted a preacher at his school campus.
He said to the preacher, “The Church officials make a lot of money off the church.” He said in a question to the preacher, “Didn’t they used to sell tickets into Heaven, am I correct or incorrect?”
In response, the preacher said, “You’re right, that happened.” He then went on to say, “Do you think those are the dudes who wrote the Gospels that sold tickets to Heaven? No, what happened to the guys who wrote the gospel? Did they get tickets and get money and get their Rolex, Airplanes and BMWs?”
Again, he asked the student, “What happened to them?”
The preacher asked again, “Historically, what happened to Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Peter, James and Simon? They were all martyred for their insistence that they saw Jesus risen from the dead.”
The preacher ended by saying, “We have to be very careful the way that you answer that question. What determines credibility? You must have your facts right. The facts are that all the guys in the 1st century who wrote the Gospels, who were inspired by the Holy Ghost to write the letters that we have in the New Testament, didn’t earn a dime. They didn’t get any popularity or political power. Instead, they all got crucified or stoned or even sawn in two; they were put to death because of their testimony of the witness of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.”
This is what the faithful preach.
