EPPING, N.H. —
Part of the North Atlantic Fuels work site in Epping was engulfed in flames Saturday evening as dozens of firefighters from surrounding communities worked for hours to put out a massive fire and hazardous situation on Depot Road.
Authorities said the first call for the four-alarm fire came in around 4:30 p.m.
“Five vehicles that were involved in a fire basically, and we have a hazmat situation going on. We have a strike force from the state on its way in currently,” Epping Selectman Bob Jordan said.
Authorities said three oil tankers and a tractor trailer were on fire, which they said took approximately 500 gallons of foam to put out due to the large amount of oil that leaked from the trucks.
“Basically, the fuel just has to burn off. We’ve got one fuel truck that’s burning heavily currently,” Jordan said.
Authorities said the fire was put out by 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
Jordan also said the town of Epping, and everyone involved is grateful for the resources and teamwork it took to contain the flames and keep everyone safe.
“I’d like to thank all the surrounding communities for responding and assisting us and taking care of this,” Jordan said.
Authorities said the cause of the fire is under investigation and it does not appear suspicious.
I just have one question: Does anyone else get the feeling that this is one of many to come as we begin war in the Middle East? Does anyone else sense that this may be just like all those food processing plants that burned to the ground? Keep your eyes open and stay vigilant.
