A multiple shooting occurred on Thursday in Maryland at the Capital Gazette newspaper office in Anne Arundel County.

The newspaper, which is owned by The Baltimore Sun, was the sight of a multiple shooting by an “active shooter” with a shotgun, which responded to by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Lots of information is currently coming out in multiple reports and across police and emergency services scanners.

Phil Davis, a Gazette crime reporter who was there at the time of the shooting, said that multiple people had been shot. Police did not immediately respond to requests for further information.

“Gunman shot through the glass door to the office and opened fire on multiple employees. Can’t say much more and don’t want to declare anyone dead, but it’s bad,” Davis wrote on Twitter as he waited to be interviewed by police. “There is nothing more terrifying than hearing multiple people get shot while you’re under your desk and then hear the gunman reload.”

According to police, first shots were reported at 2:40 p.m.

CBS News has reported that at least four people have been reported as killed in the shooting and that the shooter has been apprehended and is in custody.  WBAL adds that at least six people were injured in the shooting.

Anthony Messenger, an intern at the paper tweeted for help.

“There may be one person in custody, but they don’t know if there were any others in the shooting,” WJZ’s Mike Hellgren, who was on the scene, said. “They’re going through combing through that building trying to make sure there was no continued active threat and they’ve evacuated people from that building so that they can be reunited with their families at the Lord & Taylor at Annapolis Mall.”
