Is North Carolina Standing for All the States?

We all like the story of David and Goliath. One of the reasons that people, Christian and non-Christian alike, enjoy this historical event is because we can identify with David. We have all felt as though we were up against something or someone seemingly insurmountable. We just felt as though we had no chance of winning.

For the Christian, there is the added appeal that if God would work through and deliver a little shepherd boy, He would work through us, as well. So, now it seems that there is a similar story brewing in North Carolina over HB2.

As I have reported several times, we see a fight between common sense and lunacy. And the DOJ threatened the state Friday. And with little indication over the weekend of their intentions, the state has now answered.

Christian News reports:

Officials in North Carolina sued the U.S. Justice Department on Monday for trying to force the state to allow men in women’s restrooms.

“The Obama administration has not only staked out its position for North Carolina, but for all states, universities and most employers in the U.S.,” McCrory said in a statement. “The right and expectation of privacy in one of the most private areas of our personal lives is now in jeopardy.”

It seems, at least at this point, that McCrory has decided to do what is right. I will not go as far as saying that he will remain as tough, but he has not broken over the weight of the pressure. He may cave if he loses this lawsuit, but for now, all seems to indicate the opposite.

Christian News continues:

“This is an attempt to unilaterally rewrite long-established federal civil rights laws in a manner that is wholly inconsistent with the intent of Congress and disregards decades of statutory interpretation by the courts,” the lawsuit declares. “The department’s position is a baseless and blatant overreach.”

The problem is that the State is appealing to an authority it later may have to claim illegitimate, as the federal courts have no say over state law. But, we shall see if McCrory has his three smooth stones or if he is just bluffing to save face.

I pray it is the former and not the latter.
