Remember young Laken Riley, who was brutally murdered by an illegal alien?  Following her death, “Laken’s Law
” began to be pushed across the country.  However, in Communist New York, the legislature has killed the bill in favor of their lawless “sanctuary city” policies.

Jenna Curren reports:

ALBANY, NY – On Tuesday, May 14th, the Democrats effectively killed a bill that would have forced the state of New York to notify federal immigration officials when police departments arrest illegal immigrants.

According to the New York Post, the proposed legislation, called “Laken’s Law,” was named after the University of Georgia student who was allegedly killed by an illegal immigrant earlier this year. On Tuesday, during the chamber’s Codes Committee meeting, Republicans tried to force the Democrats to at least consider the bill, but it was practically dead on arrival in the left-controlled state assembly.

The bill was introduced earlier in the year by Assemblyman Jarrett Gandolfo (R-Long Island) after a group of illegal immigrants were arrested over a physical altercation with two New York Police Department (NYPD) officers in Times Square and then freed before Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) could be notified.

In a statement, Gandolfo said, “Laken’s Law is common-sense legislation which would protect New Yorkers and ensure criminal migrants are held accountable. Because of today’s vote, New York will remain a preferred destination of people illegally crossing our southern border, especially those who intend to commit crimes.”

“Laken’s Law,” named after Laken Riley, is a law that Gondolfo and other Republicans hoped would counteract the “Sanctuary City” policies that have been adopted and embraced by the City and some other Democrat-led municipalities that help illegal immigrants by limiting the cooperation between local and federal authorities regarding immigration law.

The bill would require local law enforcement to send arrest records and fingerprints to ICE whenever New York authorities arrest a non-citizen. According to a press release from NY Senator Robert G. Ortt, Laken’s Law would reinstate the 365 day maximum sentence for a class A misdemeanor and would repeal the “protect our courts act” of 2020 which was “designed to discourage cooperation and enforcement of federal immigration laws.”

Riley’s accused killer entered the country illegally, claimed asylum, and then failed to appear in United States court on a shoplifting charge that he incurred at a later date.

He then was arrested on a felony in New York City for allegedly endangering his five-year-old stepson and was freed by the authorities before ICE could try to stop his release. He then went on to allegedly kill Riley, who was a nursing student at the University of Georgia…….
