Police in Jefferson County, Colorado are calling the shot made by a Sheriff’s deputy a “one in a billion shot” after he fired his weapon at a robber. The amazing thing was not that he stopped the robber, but that the shot was so precise that it traveled down the barrel of the other man’s gun and disabled it.
According to the Aurora Sentinel:
Deputy Jose Marquez was shot in the shoulder and abdomen during the Jan. 26 attempted robbery in an apartment parking lot on East Adriatic Drive near Rangeview High School.
Get Daily EmailsOne of the suspects fled the scene and has not been identified. The other, Jhalil Meshesha, was wounded in the leg and later arrested, prosecutors said.
Marquez was off duty and visiting his girlfriend at her apartment. He went outside to retrieve something from his vehicle, and when he returned he saw two men in ski masks to him to “give it up.” A pistol was also pulled on him.

Though the men fired first, Marquez returned fire. One of the men was hit in the leg and Marquez was shot in the shoulder.
Marquez, who used a .45 caliber gun, shot straight down the barrel of Meshesha, who was using a .40 caliber weapon. Police investigators referred to what happened as a “one in a billion shot.”
According to spokesman for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Mark Techmeyer, Marquez has not been able to return to work at this point due to his wounds.
While Mr. Marquez may not have been aiming down the barrel of the gun, the fact that such a shot was made is pretty incredible and may have actually saved his life. So, don’t underestimate the power of training with your weapon!
