Colorado Springs, CO — If ever there was a reason to start homeschooling your children, this is it. In what is being described as an act of child abuse, teachers in Colorado Springs are accused of forcing children to tape their cloth masks to their faces so they can’t remove them. After a child sent a text message to her mother to report the procedure, an investigation is now underway.

The alleged act began gaining exposure last week when a sixth grade student named Rylee at Chinook Trail Middle School, sent her mother a text from school claiming the teacher made her tape her mask to her face. Rylee’s mother, Stephanie says she immediately drove to the school to confront them over this process.

Stephanie’s fears were reportedly confirmed when she learned other students were also forced to tape their masks to their faces.

“It’s developing some sort of mentality in our children where that kind of restraint over your face [is normal],” Stephanie said. “Your face is you, that is how people know you, they are just doubling down on hiding you and not letting you breathe, and it just conformity to the extreme.”

Tori Skeldum, another parent whose child was also forced to tape their mask, backed up Stephanie’s claims and said it happens to any student whose mask may slip down.

“[My daughter] said the teachers were wearing the masking tape around their wrists like bracelets and whenever someone’s mask would fall down they would tape them,” Skeldum said. “It’s sad that our world is coming to this and teachers would think it is ok.”

Local reporters at 11 News said they spoke to several other parents who all backed up the claims of Stephanie and Tori, “11 News spoke to multiple parents who backed up the alleged claims that teachers required the tape if students were caught wearing their mask wrong multiple times.”

An investigation is now underway in District 20 and when pressed for a comment, the school district released the following statement:

“Late Friday, Oct. 15, 2021, a student from Chinook Trail Middle School alleged teachers were taping face masks to students faces.

Over the weekend community members posted additional allegations across several social media platforms. The school and Academy District 20 are now conducting an internal investigation. We are interviewing more than 100 students and staff members to better understand this situation.

Currently we do not have concrete findings. As we know more, we will keep our community apprized.

Thank you for your patience and support as we take the appropriate steps to address these serious allegations.”

While this case is definitely outrageous, it appears to be happening in other places as well. Just last month in Las Vegas, a teacher was reportedly caught doing the same thing to elementary school children.

“I was furious, furious. I was scared for my son on what kind of long-term effect it is going to have on him socially, the fact that the entire class was laughing,” a mother told KVVU after her 9-year-old son had his mask taped to his face by a teacher.

The boy had merely taken a sip of water and didn’t put his mask back on fast enough, so the teacher struck.

“He went to get a sip of water, forgot to put the mask on. The teacher did not tell him to put it back on or send him to the office, she instead pulled him up in front of the classroom in front of all of the students and she then taped the mask across the top of his face,” she said.

The idea that taping a mask to a child’s face is acceptable under any conditions speaks to the sick mentality many people have been reduced to during this pandemic. It seems that many people would be willing to subject children to heinous practices just to have the perception of safety for adults.

Even Harvard University put out an article this week dehumanizing children, essentially equating them with roaches or rats that spread disease to adults. Sickening indeed.
