Proud To Be An American? These Students & Democrats Aren’t

Lee Greenwood made the song God Bless The USA: I’m Proud To Be An American famous.  It was something of an anthem for many.  I prefer the term “thankful” compared to proud (1 Peter 5:5-6; James 4:6-7), as I didn’t choose the land of my birth but God, in His sovereignty, appointed me to this land, for which I’m grateful.  However, there are many in the united States who are neither proud nor thankful to be an American, and some of them have been captured on video saying as much.

Campus Reform took to the streets of New York City and approached quite a bit of college students who simply were not thankful to be in the US, even though they are in no hurry to leave.

Take a look.

Cabot Phillips asked several students the question of whether or not they were proud to be an American.

Some actually declared it was a “tough” question.

Some said, “Not in the America we have today.”

One girl said, “I’m not proud of what we’ve done.”

Another student responded that it was “egotistical” to think the US is the “best nation on earth.”

When asked for specifics about what they were not proud of America about, the answers were pretty vague.

“Look at the news,” was one response while another was “There’s a plethora of things that are going wrong.”

You get the idea.  They really had no idea why they were unthankful to be Americans.  This is what occurs when young people go to public indoctrination centers.

To make the point about indoctrination, one girl was asked if she was proud when the same things occurred under Obama, and her answer was, “Well, it’s different now.”

One guy even said if we changed presidents, he would be proud.

Two female students said they were “scared” with Trump picking Supreme Court nominees, but not when Obama did it.

See?  Indoctrination.  There is no logic to their thinking.  It’s a jumbled indoctrinated mess.

When asked if there were better places to live than America, one student said, “Probably some little socialist country in Europe.”

Talk about uninformed and willfully stupid!

The same girl said that her ignorance under Obama was shattered when she realized just how many “right people” there were and how “discriminatory” they are, even though the First Amendment protects that discrimination.

One guy even said that “patriotic views about America” are nothing more than “a tool to be used to get people to join the Army.”

OK, OK, you get the idea.

However, it isn’t just students in New York City.  A recent Gallup poll indicated that less than one in three Democrats are thankful to be an American.

Currently, 32% of Democrats — down from 43% in 2017 and 56% in 2013 — are extremely proud. The decline preceded the election of Donald Trump but has accelerated in the past year.

Political liberals are even less likely than Democrats to say they are extremely proud — just 23% do so, compared with 46% of moderates and 65% of conservatives.

Commentator Daniel Greenfield points out:

The left is an ideology based wholly on hatred of the existing order. In the case of America that’s well… America.

You can’t hate America and be proud of it except in those brief moments, when as Michelle Obama noted, it mirrors your own aspirations. And when your aspiration is to destroy America, you can only love America when it’s killing itself.

He’s right, of course.

Now, look, there are things which are wrong in America and things for which I’m not thankful, which are the very things that are destroying us.  I’ll give you some of them.

  • Tolerating open sodomy and lesbianism.
  • Tolerating the murder of the unborn.
  • Attempts at redefining marriage to include sodomites.
  • Massive debt and deficit spending.
  • Unconstitutional wars
  • Unconstitutional spending of Americans’ money
  • The two party system
  • A standing army
  • A lack of Congressional funding and support of Constitutional militias
  • Attacks on the rights of the people
  • Statist indoctrination of the people
  • Churches that fail to preach a saving Gospel and only speak when they should act
  • Open public worship of idols

And I could go on and on with the things I’m not thankful for and which have brought God’s judgment upon us and will continue to bring it.

However, I have much which to be thankful.  I’m glad I can pretty much move freely and that I can live my life in relative ease and prosperity.  I’m thankful I am free to not only worship together with fellow believers on the Lord’s Day, but also continue to conduct what I believe in public.  I’m thankful to be a part of a rich heritage of Christian history in this country and to see both how God has blessed us, and at the same time see how we have brought curses on ourselves as we have strayed from Him (Deuteronomy 28).  I’m thankful we can still call upon God to forgive us and to beg that he grant us true repentance and turn us towards Him again, so that we and our children might know His blessings once more.

So, to those students that are not happy with America, I say, either you need to get away from your peers and stop and count your blessings, or maybe you should move to that little socialist country in Europe.
