A shooting that took place at Chabad of Poway, a Jewish Synagogue, on Saturday, has left at least one person dead and several others wounded and in the hospital.

According to police, a 19-year-old white male entered the synagogue armed with an AR-style semi-automatic rifle and opened fire on the people, who were celebrating the last day of Passover.  The shooting occurred around 11:30am local time.

Though the shooter was able to get off several rounds, killing at least one woman and injuring at least three others, it is believed that an off-duty Border Patrol agent, who was inside the synagogue at the time of the shooting was able to shoot at the suspect as he fled.  However, he only hit the suspect’s car.

ABC News reports on a woman whose husband was in the synagogue when the shooting occurred.

Minoo Anvari, whose husband was inside the synagogue, said that she was with a customer when he called her.

Anvari said that he told her, “One of my friends…is down. They took her to [the] hospital. The rabbi lost two fingers. But in spite of bleeding, he was trying to finish his speech. He was telling all the people who know him, ‘Be strong. … God helps us, God helps [our] country.'”

She told the LA Times:

“The rabbi and two other people were injured,” said synagogue member Minoo Anvari, whose husband was inside when the shooting broke out. “One guy was shooting at everybody and cursing.”

“One message from all of us in our congregation is that we are standing together, we are getting stronger,” Anvari said. “Never again. You can’t break us. We are strong.”

“Why? The question is, why? People are praying.”

According to San Diego County Sheriff William Gore, the woman died from her injuries.

A girl and two men were taken to the hospital and said to be in stable condition.

Reports are that at the rabbi was among those wounded.

The LA Times reported on the suspect’s capture:

Adam Pringle, 32, said he was sitting at a 76 gas station parking lot when a swarm of San Diego police, county sheriff and California Highway Patrol cars descended on the scene less than 50 feet away.

Pringle watched as police officers pulled over the man he believed to be the shooting suspect.

“Hands up or I’ll shoot you!” Pringle heard the officer yell.

The driver quickly put his hands up and the officer walked over with his gun drawn, Pringle said. That’s when the officer quickly arrested the man, Pringle said.

His rifle was found on the front seat of his vehicle.

CBS reports:

San Diego Police Chief David Nisleit said the 19-year-old suspect called police to report the shooting and a California Highway Patrol officer heard it on a police scanner, saw the suspect and pulled him over. Nisleit said the suspect got out of his car with his hands up and he was taken into custody without incident.

Authorities said the suspect, who resides in San Diego, is being interviewed by homicide detectives and the FBI.

Fox News reports:

Gore said had no details on a possible motive for the shooting and that they were reviewing copies of his social media posts.

Injured individuals were transported to the Palomar Medical Center. The medical center has received four patients, Bobette Brown, the director of communications at the facility, confirmed to Fox News.

There was no known threat after the man was detained, but authorities boosted patrols at places of worship as a precaution, Nisleit said.

The shooting comes exactly six months after the shooting in a Pittsburgh synagogue left 11 people dead.

Poway Mayor Steve Vaus told reporters, “I want you to know, this is not Poway. The Poway I know comes together as he we did just a few weeks ago in an interfaith event. We always walk with our arms around each other. And we will walk through this tragedy with our arms around each other. We have deep appreciation for those who showed courage at the Chabad. Deep appreciation for the law enforcement agencies which responded so quickly. We will get through this. Our thoughts and prayers will be with the families and those who are investigating. Poway will stay strong and we will always be a community that cares for one another.”

While tragic and senseless, no doubt people like gun grabbing Senator Kamala Harris said that she was only “disturbed” by reports of the shooting.  One wonders if she was bothered that a person was killed and others injured or disturbed that gun control laws that she pushed for in California and advances in DC are simply ineffective in a state with some of the strictest gun laws in the country.

Of course, unlike the criminally-minded politicians who think prayers are of no effect like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the reality is that many people are praying for the victims and their families and those who are righteous can surely expect that their prayers avail much in the matter.  May God open these people’s eyes to their true Messiah, the Lord Jesus Christ whom the Passover points towards, and may they know the comfort of the true and living God, and finally, may the one responsible be brought to justice.
