Shocking Poll Finds Nearly 40% Of Americans Say Violence Against The Government Would Be Justified Today
A rather shocking poll highlighting the current state of the American political system was carried out over the weekend. Far worse than approval ratings plummeting, the poll revealed that there are around 100 million Americans who think that violence against the government would be “justified” in certain instances.

The poll published by The Washington Post-University of Maryland survey found a drastic increase of people with this point of view compared to previous years.
The results of the poll found that 40 percent of Republicans agreed that it would be “justified for citizens to take violent action against the government” in certain situations.
It’s not just Republicans either, according to the data, 23 percent of democrats would also justify the use of violence against the government and another 41 percent of Independents endorsed the use of violence against the state in certain situations.
Of the respondents who said violence would be justified against the government, 22 percent of them said they would take up arms for invasions of personal liberties while another 15 percent pointed to a military takeover or democratic collapse. Just 3 percent of those polled claimed that violence is justified if the government did not accept the election results.
According to the NY Post, these numbers have risen sharply in recent years. In 2015, 23 percent of Americans approved of violence against authorities, researchers said. Five years before that, 16 percent agreed — up from only 13 percent in the mid-90s.
This sharp increase is likely due to multiple factors, especially the government’s response to coronavirus. What’s more, multiple officials have seemingly been pushing Americans into a corner over the last few years and, as this poll illustrates, fight or flight appears to be kicking in.
Last June, during one of his many slurred speeches of 2021, President Joe Biden issued a threat to Americans who would defend themselves from a tyrannical government. During the speech, he mocked gun rights and said those who advocate for the true meaning of the Second Amendment are no match for F-15s and US nuclear weapons.
During the slurred speech as he referred to the ATF as “the AFT,” Biden took to mocking and provoking those who stand up to tyrannical government.
“Those who say the blood of patriots y’know and all the stuff about how we’re going to have to move against the government. Well the tree of liberty is not watered with the blood of patriots,” Biden said, announcing new gun control actions from the White House. “What’s happened is, that there never been, if you wanted, you think you need to have weapons to take on the government, you need F-15s and maybe some nuclear weapons,” he continued.
“The 2nd Amendment from the day it was passed limited the type of people who could own a gun, and what type of weapon you could own. You couldn’t buy a cannon,” he said. But this is not true at all, the Second Amendment contains no such provision and merely says that “the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
Also, this threat was nothing new. In an op-ed published in 2018 in USA Today, Congressman Eric Swalwell (D-California) proposed a mandatory $15 billion buyback program for “assault weapons,” as well as criminal prosecution of anyone who chose to keep their guns.
“So basically Swalwell wants a war. Because that’s what you would get,” airborne veteran and gun pundit Joe Biggs commented on Twitter in response to the op-ed – to which Swalwell replied that the government would win such a war, because it has nuclear weapons.
“And it would be a short war my friend. The government has nukes. Too many of them. But they’re legit,” the congressman wrote.
When the government threatens to use nukes against its own citizens for attempting to protect their inalienable rights, it is no wonder there has been an increase in citizens willing to justify the use of violence against that government.
Those who advocate for individual liberty and freedom are increasingly being categorized by the state as “domestic terrorists.” In the meantime, small business owners watch their businesses be shut down as massive corporations rake in billions as the political class openly flaunts it in our faces. It’s all the ingredients for a perfect storm.
As a result, committees are being formed, laws are being passed, and a new era of “Patriot Act” America is rising as the establishment exploits the January 6 events to usher in a new level of totalitarianism.
By continuously attacking what can and can’t be said about one’s government, all form of political dissent is eventually outlawed and even thinking about it becomes a crime.
Rather than create a new era of Stasi-esque legislation and enforcement, if the state truly wants to seek a peaceful resolution, politicians would do well to understand what people are angry about and seek to address it — instead of simply attempting to mandate compliance through threats and force — as this is clearly not working.
After all, as John F. Kennedy famously said in 1962, “Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable.”
