Surprise: Afghan War Just Got Extended another Four Years at a Cost of $20 Billion
From the administration that doesn’t even know the number of US casualties nor the cost of the Afghan War, we are now finding out that another $20 billion will be put into the war in Afghanistan and it will extend on into 2020.
USA Today reports:
BRUSSELS — The war in Afghanistan — America’s longest conflict — will grind on for at least another four years as NATO allies are prepared to commit $5 billion through 2020 to train, equip and pay Afghan security forces, according to a senior NATO diplomat.
Last week, President Obama granted U.S. troops in Afghanistan expanded authority to attack Taliban insurgents. The new rules allow U.S. forces to advise regular Afghan combat units and to call in airstrikes. There are about 9,800 U.S. troops in Afghanistan, and Obama has pledged to reduce their number to 5,500 by year’s end.
Defense Secretary Ash Carter said the new, more aggressive approach put U.S. forces closer to the fight with the Taliban.
This comes at a time when the Taliban is stronger than ever in the region. Consider that in 2012, US troops suffered the worst airpower loss since Vietnam at the hands of the Taliban, a group of Islamists that Obama wants to negotiate with.

Also, consider that we reported on the information that came out in documentation regarding the downing of Extortion 17 that was provided in Don Brown‘s book Call Sign Extortion 17: The Shoot-Down of SEAL Team Six, which indicates that US Special Operations are under the watchful eye and command of the Afghanis.
To me, this is just more evidence that we need to pull out of NATO. Additionally, training these Afghan Security Forces has only resulted in many deaths of western fighters in Green on Blue attacks.
Still, our own government hides 28 pages of the 9/11 Commission Report which demonstrates that the real culprits in the attacks that led to us invading Afghanistan were the Saudis.
Somehow, we really need to clean house in Washington from top to bottom and return to Constitutional means of declaring war. The longest war in our history just got longer, and we’re going to pay with more money and more lives. I ask, for what?
