Trump Kills TPP

With a stroke of the pen, President Donald Trump effectively killed the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) that Barack Hussein Obama Soetoro Sobarkah worked to put in place. On Monday, among three executive orders he signed, President Trump withdrew the US from the TPP.

“It is the policy of my Administration to represent the American people and their financial well-being in all negotations, particularly the American worker, and to create fair and economically beneficial trade deals that serve their interests,” the executive order read.  “Additionally, in order to ensure these outcomes, it is the intention of my Administration to deal directly with individual countries on a one-on-one (or bilateral) basis in negotiating future trade deals. Trade with other nations is, and always will be, of paramount importance to my Administration and to me, as President of the United States.”

“Based on these principles, and by the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, I hereby direct you to withdraw the United States as a signatory to the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), to permanently withdraw the United States from TPP negotiations, and to begin pursuing, wherever possible, bilateral trade negotiations to promote American industry, protect American workers, and raise American wages,” Trump added.

“You are directed to provide written notification to the Parties and to the Depository of the TPP, as appropriate, that the United States withdraws as a signatory of the TPP and withdraws from the TPP negotiating process,” the EO concludes.

Interestingly to me, the EO sounds more simple for the average American to understand than past EOs I’ve written on concerning the Obama administration.

Basically, Trump is saying take our name off the treaty.

“We’re going to stop the ridiculous trade deals that have taken everybody out of our country and taken companies out of our country,” Trump said to a room full of union leaders.

“We’ve been talking about this for a long time,” Trump said, as he signed the document.

It’s a “great thing for the American worker” Trump declared.

“We’re going to have trades, but we’re going to have one on one…if somebody misbehaves we will send a letter and they’ll have 30 days to work it out,” Trump said on the campaign trail.  “The Trans-Pacific Partnership is another disaster done and pushed by special interests who want to rape our country, just a continuing rape of our country.”

TPP was one of 28 things Trump said would be on his agenda his first 100 days in office and he fulfilled that promise on Day 1.

Teamsters Union President James Hoffa said in a written statement, “With this decision, the president has taken the first step toward fixing 30 years of bad trade policies that have cost working Americans millions of good paying jobs.”

Of course, the usual suspects in the GOP came out against Trump.

Senator John McCain (R-AZ) said the withdrawal was a “serious mistake that will have lasting consequences for America’s economy and our strategic position in the Asia-Pacific region.”

He also added that the withdrawal will “forfeit the opportunity to promote American exports, reduce trade barriers, open new markets, and protect American invention and innovation.”

This is a smart move for America.  Obama’s call to keep the TPP secretive was the clear indication that the American people would not have wanted what was in it, much like his signature healthcare legislation, Obamacare.

Among the other three executive orders issued today, Trump also ended funding to Planned Parenthood and a freezing of federal workforce hiring.  He also announced that renegotiations will begin soon over the North American Free Trade Agreement.
