Florida Sheriff Wayne Ivey: “Be Ready and Be Armed” to Protect your Community

Brevard County, Florida Sheriff Wayne Ivey recently released a video message to exhort the people in his community to be aware and be prepared to helped defend their neighbors.

It is a known fact that the best law enforcement agencies in the country have a response time of minutes, yet violent criminals can take our lives in seconds. Law enforcement officers in San Bernardino arrived on scene approximately 4 minutes after the incident was first reported. Even with that incredible response time, they arrived too late to find too many dead or critically wounded…

Let there be no mistake. This is not about politics, religion, ethnicity, race or social status. But instead it is about our freedom, humanity, way of life and the future of our great nation. It is time to stop reacting and instead proactively engage anyone who threatens harm through terrorism or mass killings.

It is time for our national and world leaders to stop worrying about being politically correct and start worrying about what needs to be said and done to target, yes I said target, terrorist. When did becoming politically correct become more important that punishing criminals? It didn’t…
Let there be no mistake in what I’m about to say. The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. If you are a person who is legally licensed to carry a firearm, now is a time more than ever to realize that you and you alone very well might be the first line of defense for you [and] your family”
Sheriff Ivey’s argument echoes the same conversation that many sheriffs, Republican and Democrat, have been taking part in recently. In Washington, D.C. and Detroit, Michigan, known “liberal” police chiefs have recently said the same thing that Sheriff Ivey says in his above message. Folks, the police cannot protect us from violent criminals intent on doing us harm. They can’t be everywhere at once, they can’t see everything that is happening, and honestly, we don’t want them everywhere or seeing everything. No, the main job of law enforcement is to find justice for the victims of crime after those crimes have been committed and to attempt to keep those criminals from repeating their evil deeds. If you want to be safe during a violent attack, whether one like the San Bernardino shooting or a confrontation with a burglar on the street, your best chance of surviving uninjured is to be prepared to defend yourself.

Thank you, Sheriff Ivey, for speaking truth in a culture that prefers comforting lies.
