Amid Flooding & Disaster, Father Walks 30 Miles To Walk Daughter Down The Aisle On Her Wedding Day (Video)
When the devastation comes from weather such as we experienced with Hurricane Helene last week, we read of the devastation, the destruction, deaths, and the problems that such events cause. However, we often also hear amazing stories of heroism, as well as touching stories of love. This one is one of the latter. One South Carolina man drove several hours and then walked another 30 miles in Tennessee just to be able to walk his daughter down the aisle on her wedding day after Hurricane Helene had cut off all means of a two-hour drive.
David Jones, who has run marathons in the past, was supposed to merely have a two-hour drive from his home in South Carolina to Johnson City, Tennessee to walk his daughter, Elizabeth Marquez, down the aisle on her wedding day.
“My daughter is getting married at 11 o’clock this morning and I’m going to be there to walk her down the aisle,” Jones told WJHL that was his response when state troopers told him that the roads he needed to travel on were impassable.

He crossed over piles of debris, and at one point, got stuck knee-deep in mud in the area where crews were cleaning up. This incident almost became deadly as the backhoe operator did not see him and almost killed him at several points until he was able to free himself.
However, Jones made it on time and his daughter had no idea what he had to go through to get to her.
However, he gave glory to God for it and presented her and the groom with a reflector to remind them of that day. In doing so, he said it was a reminder to be a good protector and reflection of each other, and a reflection of God.
Upon finding out what her day went through just to be there on her special day, Marquez emotionally stated, “It’s so emotionally moving that my dad loves me that much and that he would come and go through all of that to get to my wedding… I just woke up at 4:30 this morning just wide awake and spent that whole morning praising God that my dad made it and that my dad’s alive.”
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. -Romans 5:8
