Congress to Spend $1B on Afghan Refugees

In ‘Saving Afghan Interpreters’ is a Scam That Would Bring 100,000 Afghans to U.S., I already pointed out that the Afghan interpreter scam was being watered down so much that it was practically meaningless and open-ended.

But the Biden administration is continuing to water down the standards and try to bring more Afghans, some of whom may be terrorists, to the United States.

Reuters first reported earlier on Monday the plans to set up the “Priority Two” refugee program, covering Afghans who worked for U.S.-funded projects and for U.S.-based non-government bodies and media outlets.

The program, which the State Department said could help “many thousands” of Afghans…

So we’ve got another refugee program, this one bringing Afghans who worked for aid projects funded by America and who worked in some capacity for media outlets.

Meanwhile SIV, often misrepresented as helping “interpreters”, is going full steam ahead.

Congress also authorized 8,000 more visas to the SIV program in a bipartisan bill that President Joe Biden signed into law Friday.

Under the bill, more than $1 billion is provided to federal agencies to assist with SIV program operations. This includes funds for emergency transportation, housing and other essential services for SIV applicants and their families.

Bipartisan bill. What’s another billion when America is made of money?

This is a partial down payment. Don’t get the idea that we’re done after that billion of which “$500 million” is going “to provide emergency transport, temporary housing, and other basic services for Afghans who qualify for Special Immigrant Visas after serving as translators and in other capacities for the U.S. military.”

The emergency supplemental authorization also makes a mockery of the interpreter scam by “removing the “sensitive and trusted” requirement for International Security Assistance Force and Resolute Support employment”.

That trashes the whole pretext that the SIV visa is going to someone who performed “sensitive and trusted” work. Anyone working for the US, or any US organization, is effectively in.

If the Taliban really want to destroy America, they should just apply for visas. Some no doubt are.
