General James “Maddog” Mattis resigned his position as Secretary of Defense on Thursday, and while many have lamented his departure (many that opposed him before his resignation) and even engaged in fear-mongering regarding his departure, it’s actually a good thing.

Mattis went to the White House with his resignation letter in hand because of President Donald Trump’s decision to pull US troops out of Syria but still made an attempt to persuade him not to do so.

“My views on treating allies with respect and also being cleareyed about both malign actors and strategic competitors are strongly held,” Mr. Mattis wrote. “Because you have the right to have a Secretary of Defense whose views are better aligned with yours on these and other subjects, I believe it is right for me to step down from my position.”

And yet, the same Mattis, along with other US intel officials, stated that there was no evidence that President Bashar al-Asaad gassed his own people when President Trump launched missiles into Syria, not once, but twice, in clear violation of the US Constitution.  Mattis would continue to push the narrative to attack Syria again in 2018 despite no evidence.

Mattis has also not spoken up about the financial support of the Islamic jihadis, who put out propaganda that they are aiding the people, by the Trump administration.  Even Israel has been aiding these jihadis.

Senator Ben Sasse, Republican of Nebraska, called it “a sad day for America because Secretary Mattis was giving advice the President needs to hear.”

He added that Mr. Mattis “rightly believes that Russia and China are clear adversaries and that we are at war with jihadists across the globe who plot to kill Americans at home.”

Yes, but Trump is not unaware of this.  He realizes that fact, but what Senator Sasse needs to answer is, on what constitutional basis are we in Syria?  The answer:  No constitutional basis.

Now, I don’t believe we have any business in Syria.  Asaad is not our enemy and his people love him.  Trump has said we shouldn’t be there too, especially when he was on the campaign trail.  The move to withdraw from Syria and Afghanistan would is a good one.

We have no business tearing down nations just to build them up.

Our Constitution really does not allow for that, and we have wasted so many lives and so much money in an attempt to do just that in Afghanistan and Iraq, and we have been hellbent on doing it in Syria.  It’s time we brought our people home, not just from these countries but from all over the world so that they might engage in exactly what they are in the service to do, defend America.
