Jarrell, TX – Responsible for taking the life of an innocent man and engulfing two trucks in flames, an off-duty El Paso cop was arrested Tuesday for driving while intoxicated (DWI) and unlawfully carrying a weapon. Instead of upholding the law, the allegedly drunk cop caused a multi-car collision that resulted in three injuries and one completely unnecessary fatality.

According to Texas State Trooper Robbie Barrera, witnesses reported seeing off-duty El Paso officer Alan Dieguez’s 2015 Hyundai weaving in and out of traffic on Interstate 35 at over 100mph around 2 a.m. on Tuesday. A few minutes later, Dieguez rear-ended a tractor trailer and veered into a ditch on the side of the road.

As the driver of the 18-wheeler that Dieguez hit pulled to a stop, the driver reportedly exited his vehicle to see if Dieguez needed any help. Before he could reach Dieguez’s Hyundai, the truck driver was accidentally killed by another tractor trailer swerving to avoid colliding into a piece of wreckage.

After taking the innocent driver’s life, the second 18-wheeler ended up in a ditch and burst into flames. A third tractor trailer slammed into some debris before catching fire as well.

Injured in the crash, Dieguez and two others were transported to Seton Medical Center Williamson in Round Rock. The driver of the first truck died at the scene.

After receiving treatment, Dieguez was booked into the Williamson County Jail on Tuesday afternoon for DWI and unlawfully carrying a weapon while drunk. A three-year veteran of the department, Dieguez will be placed on administrative leave upon his return to El Paso, according to a police press release.

Despite the fact that Dieguez clearly caused the multi-vehicle collision, the off-duty officer was not charged with manslaughter for the innocent driver’s death because his untimely demise was technically categorized as a second crash. Had Dieguez not slammed into his truck, the driver would have had no reason to exit his vehicle and risk his life for the drunken cop responsible for his death.

Due to the blue code of silence, many cops repeatedly get away with excessive speeding and driving while intoxicated. Instead of respecting the laws they enforce, these officers continue to recklessly endanger the innocent lives they have sworn to protect.
