Gov. Newsom: Don’t Call My ‘Vaccine Passport’ a Vaccine Passport
If a rose by any other name would smell as sweet, what about a vaccine passport?
Vaccine passports are popular with bureaucrats and technocrats, but really unpopular with the people. So Governor Newsom, in between the lotteries, and bread and circuses, will unveil a vaccine passport… that won’t be called a vaccine passport.
California plans to soon launch an electronic system that will let businesses verify whether their customers have received their COVID-19 vaccinations in an effort to side step concerns tied to the term “vaccine passport,” according to a June 11 San Diego Union-Tribune report.
If you don’t call it a vaccine passport, it’s okay.

Trying to stay away from the phrase “vaccine passport,” Gov. Gavin Newsom said Friday that California is on the cusp of releasing an electronic system that will allow businesses to confirm that their customers have received their shots.
That’s a vaccine passport. Whatever euphemism Newsom decides to use. And this is a state which legalized crime under the rubric of safer neighborhoods.
The governor confirmed Friday that the “vaccine verification” language in the new masking guidelines for businesses does indeed refer to an effort to help private enterprises check inoculation status electronically.
“There is no mandate, no requirement, no passport,” Newsom said, noting that the guidance allows businesses to use such a system or ignore it all together without penalty.
He declined to say what form such an electronic verification system might take — whether it might work through, say, a smartphone app, the existing state ID system or some other method — only reiterating Friday that an announcement with deeper details is coming “very shortly.”
That’s a vaccine passport.
California will mandate that businesses check vaccine status. It just provides two other options, including forcing everyone to wear masks. It will provide access to electronic records to conduct those vaccine checks. That’s a vaccine passport. Newsom and the Democrat media can spin as hard as they like, but a vaccine passport by any other name is just as oppressive and abusive.
The only question is whether the French Laundry will require vaccine passports for lobbyist and governor lovefests.
