We get it.

Hollywood and the leftwing liberal media hate every right of center American, and a whole lot of left of center ones too. (Particularly if they still hunt, go to church, or support their local police.)

What we don’t get, is how Hollywood doesn’t get, that we don’t care what they think of us.

The “big budget” movie industry is dying. Mainstream TV broadcasting is dying. Even the NFL, once America’s favorite diversion, is dying.

Why? It’s not because there aren’t entertaining options out there. It’s not because technology is getting better and the entertainment is getting better (which some of it is).

It’s because the majority of Americans (even the people who aren’t on the right) are sick and tired of being preached at by our entertainment.

Once upon a time, entertainment was for escaping the realities of every day life. Today, too many entertainers believes that they have a fundamental duty to fill their work with social commentary and political grandstanding. The reason that we remember the Mr. Smith Goes to Washington type movies of the past, is because they were the exception, not the rule. When social commentary was included in a movie in the past, it was subtle and refined. It often made the film better and was not used to bludgeon viewers into a certain political perspective (Hello, Shape of Water, we’re looking at you). Today’s films have all the subtlety of a teenager at a strip club – none.

It’s exhausting.

Our entertainment is no longer an escape, it’s just more of life’s problems dressed up in an expensive, 3-D wrapping. And America is tired of it.

Sadly, the leftwing’s favorite late-night host, Jimmy Kimmel didn’t get the memo before hosting the 2018 Oscar Awards.

If you didn’t see it (good for you), let me recap.

Kimmel opened the show by attacking President Trump, Vice President Pence, half of America, and then things got worse from there…

The late night host a quipped that Trump very much liked the first three-quarters of ‘Get Out.’

Well, that didn’t take long.

Right off the bat, host Jimmy Kimmel took shots at Donald Trump during the opening of the 90th Academy Awards on Sunday night, including about the president tweeting from a gold toilet.

The late-night host quipped that Trump very much liked the first three quarters of Get Out.

He also said the Oscar was so old, it was at home watching Fox News.

Kimmel later worked in a joke about Hope Hicks quitting her position as communications director last week.

“Where there is light, there is always hope. Except at the White House. Hope quit on Wednesday,” Kimmel said.

He also encouraged the stars to get up and espouse their political positions as loudly as they wanted.

Kimmel said: “You have an opportunity and a platform to remind millions of people about important things like equal rights and equal treatment, if you want to encourage others to join the amazing students at Parkland at their March on the 24th, do that.”

He pointed out that America hates Hollywood, but reminded the movie stars that they weren’t in this for the money:

“Only two of the best picture movies made more than $100 million. That’s not the point. We don’t make films for money. We make them to upset Mike Pence. Right?”

Of course, the early ratings for last night’s Oscars are no surprise… they sucked. This headline from the Wrap says it all.

In fact, the 2018 Oscars appear to be the lowest rated Oscar Awards EVER. And that is perfect.

Ratings for the 2018 Oscars telecast were down 16% compared with last year, according to unofficial overnight numbers reported by The Hollywood Reporter. The awards ceremony, which saw 20th Century Fox-owned Fox Searchlight’s “The Shape of Water” win best picture, garnered a 18.9 overnight rating among households between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. Eastern. That doesn’t mean that 18.9 million people tuned in, but rather 18.9% of the households measured tuned in. That would be an all-time low, The Hollywood Reporter wrote.

Now, maybe a few more people tuned in to see the biggest awards handed out between 10-11 pm… but honestly, viewership usually goes down as the night wears on, not up.

Having the 2018 Oscars be the lowest rated ever, would be a perfect ending to a perfectly terrible year for Hollywood. I can only hope that 2018 is even worse.
