Nowhere in the Bible…

“Behold, for peace I had great bitterness: but thou hast in love to my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption: for thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back.” -Isaiah 38:17

Nowhere in the Bible does it say that GOD’S CHILDREN are punished for their sin.  Punishment is for unbelievers, not for those who have repented (2 Corinthians 7:10-11), been born of the Spirit (John 3:3) and have been washed in Christ’s blood (Revelation 1:5).

Over 2000 years ago, Almighty God placed all of the guilt of all of His people’s sins, past, present and future, upon His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ (Isaiah 53:6).  There is no way for God to punish you today if you, again, have received Jesus Christ as your Savior from sin (Matthew 1:21), having accepted God’s substitute and God’s atonement in Christ Jesus.  If you are in Christ, God the Father having put all the punishment and all the penalty on Him, there is no way for God to come back and say, “Well, I’m gonna punish you for this sin.”  It would be unjust.

There is a difference between chastisement and punishment.  Chastisement is what a father does to his son that is correction in love.  We have become sons and daughters of God through the cross of Jesus Christ.

“And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:
For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.” -Hebrews 12:5-6
