For many, there are gray areas concerning sin: things that they do not think are healthy are sin, therefore, many people abstain from alcohol. There are people that think smoking cigarettes and chewing tobacco are a sin, so they abstain.
But, there are many who would not call clear sins sin. There are those who refuse to call sodomy sin. And there are those who refuse to call idolatry sin. But, they do not mind marking up non-sinful actions as sin.
A great example of what I mean is found in what the Pope recently said.

The Washington Times reports:
Pope Francis is imploring Catholics to confess their sins against the environment, calling the degradation of the climate a “sin against God.”
In his message marking the World day of Prayer for the Care of Creation on Thursday, the pontiff said climate change is caused in part by human activity, leads to extreme weather and disproportionately affects the least advantaged around the world.
Citing last year’s controversial encyclical on the environment, “Laudato Si,” the pontiff said “for human beings to contaminate the earth’s waters, its land, its air, and its life — these are sins.”
He added that “to commit a crime against the natural world is a sin against ourselves and a sin against God.”
This means, according to the Pope, then, to ride a car and an airplane is to sin. And, like all other climate alarmists, the Pope has done a whole bunch of both of late.
There is no question that Pope Francis is the most left-leaning, communist Pope ever, but next, he will tell us that wearing a pointy hat is a sin. And you know he will be wearing his while he does.
