Representative Advances Resolution to Celebrate Darwin’s Birthday
The fact that most children attending our public schools are taught a theory as fact is sad enough. Now, we have a Democrat who wants to recognize February 12 as Darwin Day. He says that it is reason and science that is under attack in our schools and that such a resolution would help to preserve these principles.
Christian News reports:
A Democratic lawmaker (Rep. James Himes of Connecticut) filed a resolution in the House of Representatives that, if approved, would recognize February 12, 2017, as “Darwin Day” and celebrate the father of evolution’s contributions to science.
“Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution by the mechanism of natural selection, together with the monumental amount of scientific evidence he compiled to support it, provides humanity with a logical and intellectually compelling explanation for the diversity of life on Earth,” the resolution asserts.
“[T]he teaching of creationism in some public schools compromises the scientific and academic integrity of the United States education systems,” H.R. 44 claims.
The problems with this resolution are clear.

Evolution is a theory. It has never been proven, nor can it be proven. The reason is simple. First, it is not testable or repeatable. Second, we see no examples in nature or biology of evolution on the scale that must be present to believe evolution occurred. Third, and most important, fallacies cannot be proven.
The other problem is that these people do not live in such a way that is consistent with these beliefs. This Congressman would never live out his own worldview.
If this is true, nothing else could be provable. In a world of evolution based on time and chance, we should abandon science altogether. We should not expect tests to be repeatable or useful. We are left to blind chance and guesses.
Besides all this, I thought that we already had a day to honor not just Darwin but all who ascribe to Natural Selection, April 1st.
