The Terror of Judgment

“The roaring thunder of the Law, and the fear of terror of judgment are both used to bring us unto Christ…”  -Charles Spurgeon

The roaring thunder of the Law is used to bring about a knowledge of your sins unto repentance towards God (Acts 20:21) with the knowledge that you are guilty of breaking His Law.

The Law converts the soul.

“The Lord is perfect, converting the soul.” -Psalm 19:7

“Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ…” -Galatians 3:24

Yet, it also gives us a knowledge of the consequences of transgressions if men continue in sin, which is known and defined as judgment (John 8:24).

“Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men…” (2 Corinthians 5:11), to flee from the sin that put Christ upon the cross, the same cross which He took upon Himself in our stead (Isaiah 53:6), and those that refuse His mercy by rejecting Him as their Savior will meet Him, in the end, as their as their Judge (James 2:13).

Remember that Jesus Christ is the standard by which men will be judged.

“Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained…” -Acts 17:31

Jesus is described in the Bible as a Lamb, but He is also described as a Lion.

Jesus is also described in the Bible as both a Savior and as a Judge.

It is appointed unto all of us to stand before Him and to meet Him as either the Lamb or as the Lion – We are all going to meet Him as either the Savior or as Judge.

Friends, all roads lead to the judgment seat of Christ.

“For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that everyone may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.” -2 Corinthians 5:10

“And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.” -Hebrews 9:27

“And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.” -Revelation 20:11

As a Savior, “He shall save His people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21).

“Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him…” -Hebrews 7:25

“In Him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace.” -Ephesians 1:7
