New York, NY — In one of the worst police chases on which TFTP has ever reported, 10 innocent people were injured by an NYPD police officer driving onto the sidewalk after the officer lost control of his vehicle. Among the seriously injured pedestrians was a 5-year-old boy. A 2-year-old child was also injured after the officer rammed them head-on.

According to witnesses, the officer was flying down the street, driving so fast and recklessly, that he rammed another car occupied by the 2-year-old and his mother, causing him to lose control and plow into a group of people on the sidewalk. Witnesses said it happened so fast, no one could get out of the way.

“They couldn’t even move. Somebody is going to die,” witness Yamil Irazariy told WABC.

The reckless actions of the officer were captured on a surveillance camera nearby. According to the video, the officer crosses a double yellow line and drives directly into oncoming traffic. As an Acura sedan began taking a left turn, the officer rammed it before losing control and driving into the sidewalk.

The officer was traveling so dangerously fast that his car took out a light pole on the sidewalk before plowing into the group of innocent bystanders.

“The lady, you know, like her flying up and s*** her legs and she was bleeding from her chin and from her cheek all the way down to her chin,” a witness told WABC.

According to police, both occupants of the Acura were injured and 6 others were hit on the sidewalk, either by the light pole or the cruiser, bringing the total injured to 10, including the two officers.

Oddly enough, after the officer lost control of the vehicle and plowed into innocent people on a sidewalk, NYPD Chief Jeffrey Maddrey commended his precinct.

“I really want to commend the members of the 41 precinct because they were trying to get here, they weren’t trying to prevent that crime. They were trying to apprehend someone that was attempting to steal a vehicle,” said NYPD Chief Maddrey.

The child and several others were rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Their current condition is unknown.

Below is that video. Warning it is graphic.

As frequent readers of the Free Thought Project likely understand, police chases — even for minor infractions — can often have deadly consequences. Over the years we’ve reported on chases for misdemeanors in which countless innocent people, including children, have been killed due to the reckless nature of such practices.

As we reported in May, 7 innocent people in one city were killed in a two-week period during police chases.

The St. Louis chapter of the NAACP sought intervention from the U.S. Justice Department after the 7 innocent motorists, including 2 children, were killed during high-speed pursuits by police.

As TFTP has reported, this happens a lot — thousands of times. According to a recently published research study by the Fine Law Firm and 1Point21 Interactive, over 2,000 citizens over a four-year period were killed by cops as police were chasing suspect vehicles. Surprisingly, more than half of those killed were not the suspects.

An analysis by the Fine Law Firm and 1Point21 Interactive found that there were 1,699 fatal crashes involving police chases from 2014-2018, killing at least 2,005 people – 1,123 were not the driver of the fleeing vehicle.

That number might be much higher because, just as with officer-involved shootings, those killed by cop statistics are not required to be reported to any federal government database anywhere. Currently, officer-involved shooting deaths are only voluntarily reported to the FBI.
