Many Americans are in a hysterical fury over the election of Donald Trump, because they fear that he will follow through with many of his outrageous campaign promises and take the government in a very dangerous and dark direction. For anyone who has been paying close attention, the US government has been headed in a very dangerous and dark direction for a very long time.

Regardless of which president was in power, whether it was Bush or Obama or Clinton, we have had a growing police state, deepening war and a collapsing economy. Regardless of what type of campaign promises were made, presidents always run the government with a “business as usual” approach, and, so far, there is no indication that Trump will be any different.

Sure, it is true that Donald Trump was the most over the top candidate in recent memory, but there has already been growing evidence that his antics were simply an act that he put on for the sake of his campaign.

For example, one of Donald Trump’s most controversial campaign promises, was in regards to a ban on all Muslims entering the country. There was a statement on Trump’s website advocating for such a policy since the 7th of December, 2015. Mysteriously, the statement vanished from Trump’s website the night that he was elected. However, according to The Independent, a cached version of the website shows that the statement was posted on the morning of election day.

Now, the page where the statement was once posted no longer exists, and simply redirects to his campaign fundraiser.

Oddly enough, Trump was not known to have racist or anti-immigration views until he began to run for election.

As we reported last month, three years ago, he wrote an opinion piece for CNN where he explicitly called for open borders, a drastic difference from his now famous anti-immigration stance.

In the hours following the outcome of the election, allies of Trump have even suggested that he will not follow through on his promise to arrest Hillary Clinton for her crimes as secretary of state.

Despite the hysteria surrounding Trump’s election, there is every indication that he will conduct business as usual while in office. This is still a very bad thing considering the fact that the US government has been headed in a dangerous direction for decades. But many of the specific, drastic policies that people are afraid of will likely never materialize and were likely never serious policy suggestions at all.
