Americans Need To Be More Concerned With The Situation In Canada Than What’s Happening In Ukraine

In case you’ve been under a rock, you’ve likely seen the conflict escalating between Russia, Ukraine, the United States and other NATO allies. This conflict is not new and has been increasing since the Obama administration breathed fire into a coup d’état and helped to overthrow then Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych.

When anger mounted against Yanukovych’s heavy handed behavior and corruption, the US went to Kiev to show solidarity with the Euromaidan activists. Leaked phone calls would later reveal that in 2013, Victoria Nuland, the assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian Affairs, and U.S. ambassador to Ukraine Geoffey Pyatt discussed in detail their preferences for specific personnel in a post‐Yanukovych government. The U.S‑favored candidates included Arseniy Yatsenyuk, the man who became prime minister once Yanukovych was ousted from power.

The champions of democracy were openly discussing installing political leaders in the country — up to and including neo-Nazis.

In 2014, the Obama Administration stood with Ukrainian Neo-Nazis against the encroaching presence of Russian troops and sympathizers alike. Here’s a tweet of former Vice President Joe Biden of the Obama administration shaking hands with one of Ukraine’s Neo-Nazis. Oleh Tyahnybok is a Ukrainian politician and former member of the Verkhovna Rada and also a leader of the nationalist far-right Svoboda political party.

Imagine Russia coming to Mexico and courting neo-Nazis in an attempt to put them into power in Central America. Would the US government simply lay down and take it?

Nevertheless, here we are nearly a decade later with the US and Russia threatening each other thanks largely in part to US foreign policy in the region.

To be clear, Russian President Vladimir Putin is not a good person. He is a tyrant like everyone else involved. However, he is smart enough to know that actually invading Ukraine would be a massive mistake which is why he has limited Russia’s military to the pro-Russian breakaway provinces of Donetsk and Luhansk.

This issue should resolve itself with very little violence and with no catastrophic consequences outside of driving up prices in certain sectors, thanks to US sanctions. What’s more, this is not America’s problem. This is why you will not here any pro-war politician give a clear outline of what “success” in this situation looks like — because there is no version of it. American taxpayers funding the defense of the Ukraine is a lose lose situation and there will be not benefit from it.

However, rest assured that it will be used as a massive distraction to direct your attention away from runaway inflation and domestic economic devastation. As with all military conflicts the US has started over the last century, there are smoke and mirrors around every corner.

Rest assured, this new wave of fear will be used to usher in even more tyranny that will ensure the billionaire class gets richer while the middle class gets smaller.

In the meantime, Canada and the US have both taken some worrisome steps toward what could pave the way for a hellish police state. This week, both Justin Trudeau and Biden extended their emergency procedures, despite covid cases, hospitalizations, and deaths, plummeting.

Trudeau’s emergency powers were declared after peaceful citizens descended on Ottawa to protest the government’s mandates which they perceived as an afront to their freedoms. Despite the protests ending — in a fury of police violence — the Canadian parliament voted 185 to 151 to extend the Emergencies Act.

By extending this act, Trudeau is able to continue to freeze the accounts of political opponents and give black lists to banks for those who will be tagged under his new powers. These powers are without limits and require no due process.

“Let’s be clear; every Canadian is currently subject to the emergency orders. The orders limit peaceful assembly across the country and require financial institutions to freeze bank accounts without judicial oversight. The federal government does not control how and when these laws are used. These legal powers have been placed in the hands of police officers across the country. As with all broad grants of power, the risk of abuse is significant,” the Canadian Civil Liberties Association wrote in a letter this week.

Indeed, like all temporary government powers, seized during ostensible emergencies, the bureaucrats rarely if ever relinquish them. We went from two weeks to flatten the curve to the second largest democracy in North America falling into despotism in under two years.

The silence from the US and lack of opposition from the political class means they support Trudeau’s authoritarianism. As it continues, the US will begin implementing its own brand of tyranny and it has already laid out the groundwork to do so.

As William Jacobson points out, “Trudeau is dangerous not just because he’s abusing Canadians, but because he is providing the wish list for crackdowns by Democrats in the U.S.”

We see it already. Big tech corporations do the Democrats’ bidding in silencing critics through deplatforming, censoring content from publication or social media sharing, deplatforming websites from hosting companies and, as in the case of Parler, from the cloud and app stores. Funding platforms like GoFundMe are pressured to suspend fundraising and deprive the beneficiary of the donations, and payment processors and banks are pressured to cut off deplorables. Removing the political opposition from the modern financial and technology systems is what Justin Trudeau is doing, and it’s the dream of the political progressives in the U.S.

As we reported earlier this month, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued a bulletin warning of a heightened terrorism alert inside the borders of the United States. One of the “key factors” for the heightened threat, which the DHS considers terrorism, is “the proliferation of false or misleading narratives, which sow discord or undermine public trust in U.S. government institutions.”

It is the job of a true journalist to undermine trust in the government and given the shifting goal posts on what is defined as “misinformation” over just the last two years, literally anyone could find themselves subject to this definition. Merely sharing this article could get you labeled as a threat.

According to one FBI latest report, you might also be classified as a domestic terrorism threat if you espouse conspiracy theories, especially if you “attempt to explain events or circumstances as the result of a group of actors working in secret to benefit themselves at the expense of others” and are “usually at odds with official or prevailing explanations of events.”

Exactly what action the state will take against those accused of challenging its authority is unclear. However, if Canada is any indicator, things could go south quickly.

Now is not the time to be complacent. As the Ukraine crisis unfolds, we must remain resilient and pay attention to the government’s slight of hand. Rest assured, this crisis will be used as an excuse to take away your freedoms and increase the state’s chokehold over your rights.

Now is not the time for partisan squabbles as this authoritarianism will be used against all anti-establishment voices. It is time to speak up while we still can. We cannot let tyrants win by staying silent.
